If you noticed the title change, it's because some fans of mine said I should enter my story into the Watty Awards. So, that means more updates for you guys! I know, the last chapter was a cliffhanger. So, read on, and wish me luck to finish this story in exactly one flipping month, because in 1 month and 1 day is MoA! *fangirl shriek*
Chapter 34
Annabeth
Annabeth was wet, cold, and in a bad mood with her boyfriend. Her hair was soaked, her body was numb, and she had a huge bump on her head. Getting blasted by a wave of water was not good for her, especially since she was slammed into a cavern ceiling. Once she was changed into warm clothes, her hair was dry and in a ponytail, and was sitting on the couch with a hot chocolate, she felt much better.
The snow outside was still falling steadily. Khione must have been in a bad mood. Whatever the reason, July suddenly seemed like December.
“Where’s Percy?” Leo asked. “He was outside.”
“He’s probably pouting,” Annabeth scoffed. But she stood up anyways and slipped on her coat. She laced her sneakers before going outside into the snow.
Everything was frosty. The pond that had once been cool with summertime was now frozen over. She walked over to where she last saw Percy to see nothing but footprints in the snow. Her eyebrows pulled together. This was unlike him. She stood in the wintery clearing for a moment more before a feeling of dread washed over her. She felt the lump in her throat as she turned around and stumbled back into the warship. Her face must have been something to see because the demigods looked at her in alarm. She panted for a moment before managing to stutter, “H-He’s gone!”
“What do you mean?” Hazel asked.
“He’s gone!” Annabeth wailed in distress. “I went outside to tell him to get his butt in here, but he wasn’t there! There were footprints! Someone took him!”
“We need to find him,” Frank said. “Get your jackets again. You’ll need your weapons and probably some drachmas.”
“How do we start an Iris message without any water?” Leo asked.
“I found some spray bottles,” Piper suggested. She jogged off to come back with six spray bottles.
Having drachmas in her pocket, Annabeth gave everyone two drachmas each. Her hand shook. She was so scared.
“Do we split up?” Hazel asked.
“Yes.” Annabeth was anxious to go. “Don’t go very far. Just don’t let your guard down!”
Everyone walked off the warship. Annabeth quickly ran off. She was alone, walking around, calling Percy’s name. The tears were falling down her cheeks rapidly. She had just found him and he was gone again.
She wasn’t looking to where she was going until she slammed into Jason. She muttered an apology.
“Hey, we’ll find him,” Jason said.
“I hope.” She looked away.
They stood there in silence for a second before there was a shimmering noise. An Iris message appeared.
It was Piper. She was pale. “Jason, Annabeth, I have news.”
“What?” Annabeth asked.
Piper was clammy with sweat. “I think it was Khione. I found Percy. He’s frozen, though. I can’t get him to defrost. Khione wants to kill us.”
