Ah, our last Leo chapter. I can remember my first Leo chapter- chapter 5, and how it was full of jokes. And this chapter will also be full of jokes. I hope you enjoy these final words from Flaming Valdez.
Chapter 51
Leo
“Okay, I promise this is the last time,” Leo told a stubborn Piper. “Please, Pipes, I know what I’m doing!"
He was covered in engine grease and sweat. Piper sat in the captain’s chair, her jaw set, her hand on the handle to turn on the engine. He’d been trying to fix the engine with no avail. Piper was convinced they needed a brand new engine, so here Leo was, begging to try starting the engine of his own ship.
He felt like an idiot.
“The ship isn’t responding,” she said, her voice dangerously low. “I think we should get more parts for a new engine.”
“That would take weeks,” he said, exasperated. “It’s either we go now and save the world sooner, or we may wait and the world could end.”
She hesitated. Then she turned to the handle, pushed down.
Leo held his breath.
The ship’s engine purred to life, snarling with power, vibrations running down the ship, good as new.
“Yes!” Leo yelled, jumping, pumping his fist into the air. “She’s back!”
The others started cheering, all with smiles. Even Nico managed a grin, clapping slowly.
“So, are we all coming?” Leo asked, turning to his friends and Mrs. O’Leary.
Nico shook his head. “Mrs. O’Leary and I are going back to Camp Half-Blood. Camp Jupiter is on truce with them, and they’re preparing for earthquakes because we all know Gaea will target all the demigods. Then I’m going to the Underworld to help Hades with all those escaped souls. I don’t think you guys have to worry about escaped souls anymore, but that doesn’t mean you won’t run into trouble.”
“Thanks for all your help,” Percy said. “Without you, we would have been… well, dead. I would have been burned to fish sticks.”
“We all know Thalia is supposed to do that.” Nico grinned. “I’m off. You know where to find me if you need me. Good luck in Greece.” He hopped on Mrs. O’Leary, who quickly shadow traveled away.
“Alright, people, we’re back in business,” Leo announced. “Get everything ready for takeoff. Then we’re off to Greece.”
They all scrambled around, making sure everything was ready. The only thing that was wrong was a small spider on the wall, so Annabeth screamed so loud that it nearly burst Leo’s eardrums.
“Are we ready for takeoff?” Leo asked, turning his chair around to see Percy and Piper looking over the outside catwalk.
“It’s a go.” Percy gave a thumbs-up.
Sucking in a breath, Leo yanked on the level. The ship’s engine purred to life again. He was hoping that all the repairs he had done were good…
The Argo II lifted into the air and began to fly.
“That’s my baby!” Leo shouted, doing a little happy dance.
“Off to Greece!” Percy yelled, pulling Annabeth into his arms.
Jason clapped Leo on the back. “You deserve this. After barely getting to Rome, we’re off the Greece in one piece.”
