Chapter One - 'Doctor Mysterio'The Doctor, Ryan, Yaz and Graham were in the TARDIS. The TARDIS was flying through the time vortex, on its way to Abydos. Inside, the Doctor was at the control panels pressing various different buttons of all shapes, colours and sizes. The others were standing across the console from her talking amongst themselves. "So Doc, why exactly are we going to this planet, what's it called?..." Graham was cut off by the Doctor.
"Abydos Graham, we're going to Abydos, I thought that after everything we've all been through we could all go a nice break. We could go for a swim in the non-gravity swimming pools, oh and do you know they have robots that play Gladiator, its great, you'll love it. Although last time I went it was facing bankruptcy. I was a curly-haired bloke with a ridiculous scarf, and a tin dog called K9, I really do hope he's doing ok, I miss that dog." The Doctor scratched her head. Graham, Ryan and Yaz looked at each other with a puzzled look all over their faces.
"You know Doctor, sometimes we have no idea what you are talking about," Yaz spoke as she walked around the console towards the Doctor
"Yeah well that's half of the fun Yaz, Call me Doctor Mysterio," Yaz laughed.
The TARDIS console began to flash red continuously, as there were various continuous beeping noises.
"Ok then 'Doctor Mysterio' what is that then," Yaz asked, as a concerned look swept upon her face.
The Doctor walked over towards the TARDIS scanner where there was a flashing light and text that read 'Major Rift Spike, Cardiff 2013' "Oh no, that's bad, that's really, really ... bad" The Doctor said in a nervous tone of voice whilst scratching her head. She turned around slowly to face the gang. "Mhm mmh. Anyone fancy a trip to Cardiff in 2013?" She said in a high pitched tone, with a forced grin on her face.
A look of disgust swept Grahams Face. "Cardiff, Cardiff Doc, I could go to Cardiff anytime I wanted. What about that place we were going to go to uhh A...Bady...bos"
"Anything's better than those tombs on Mavis, those were freaky" Ryan exclaimed facing Graham.
"Yeah Ryan, You acted like a baby" Yaz chuckled.
"Ryan they were just Tombs with dead Maveek Mummy's get over it! Graham how many times its Abydos, and Cardiff might be in big, big trouble. Massive trouble in fact. I have a group of friends down there that can help. We can go to Abydos anytime we want," the Doctor started running around the console setting the coordinates, turning dials and pulling out wires from below the console whilst talking.
"You see there is a rift in space and time running underneath Cardiff and every once in a while something comes through it, there's a small team in Cardiff called Torchwood, who usually monitor it. However, if its a Major Rift Spike I get sent a signal so I can go down and see if they're needing any help" The Doctor spun the time dial and pushed up the dematerialisation lever. She turned and looked at the gang with an excited grin "Locked on to Torchwood!" She yelled out excitedly.
"Torch what?" Graham said, but he was ignored.
The central time column began to go up and down. The Tardis began to shake as sparks flew out from the console. "Hold on to something, the Tardis isn't reacting well to the stray rift energy, she doesn't want to land." Graham and Yaz began to stumble around the Tardis whilst Ryan found something to hang onto.
"She?" – Ryan shouted over all the noise confused whilst gripping on tightly to one of the crystal-like pillars surrounding the console room. Flames shot out from the time rotor and the Doctor got thrown to the ground. She blew her hair from her face and looked up at Ryan panting. "Now is not the time".
She pulled her sonic screwdriver from her inside pocket and pointed It towards the console and pushed down on the button. The sonic glowed orange "bzzzzzzzz" The dematerialisation lever went down and the TARDIS began to materialise. The Doctor let out a sigh of relief whilst pushing the sonic into her inside pocket and looked over towards her companions. "I love pockets! Everyone ok?" she asked. They all replied "Yes" together, almost in unison. The Doctor turned to face the console which was still burning and letting off smoke. "Let's get out of here before we get intoxicated by the Secondary Oils used to keep the engine going". She led them all to the TARDIS entryway and opened the great blue doors and stepped out. The TARDIS had landed outside Torchwood. "Welcome to Torch-" or where Torchwood used to be. "Where is it?" She yelled frustratingly.
The Doctor went on all fours and pulled out her medical stethoscope from her jacket, placed the earpieces in her ears, and placed the disc to the ground. The ground Torchwood should've been underneath was just flat cement, no entrance, the base had been completely filled. It was gone! "It's gone, where's it gone"
"Where's what gone Doc?" Graham asked.
She stood up and dusted herself down. "Torchwood, a secret organisation monitoring all rift and alien activity, it was here but now Its just pavement, nothing but cement. So wheres Jack?"
Graham looked at Yaz "Jack?"
"Doctor, who's Jack?" Yaz asked.
"You'll find out once we find him, the TARDIS should be ok by now, but first I need to scan for traces of stray vortex energy left by a Vortex Manipulator," She pulled her sonic from her pocket and held it up into the air. It flashed orange and buzzed repeatedly as she paced around in a circle waiting to pick up some sort of signal. The sonic flashed blue and began to make one single beep. The Doctor ran into the Tardis, and the doors swung shut behind her. She pushed the sonic into the socket on the console, pushed up a lever, and quickly ran over to the scanner.
Ryan, Yaz and Graham entered the TARDIS completely puzzled, they sat down and let the Doctor get on with it. "Doctor?" Ryan asked.
"Not now Ryan" She answered whilst looking at the results from the stray vortex energy scan.
"It's just, I haven't had any breakfast and was wondering if I could have a biscuit"
"GOT IT!" She yelled. She ran back over to where the sonic was plugged in, she pressed a few buttons and turned dials. "This should be the location of Jacks vortex manipulator, If I can just lock the TARDIS on to its last known coordinates, find that, and we've found Jack. There!." She took a biscuit from her biscuit dispenser and threw it to Ryan "Catch!". She pulled the dematerialisation lever and the TARDIS took off.
