THE SKY was as grey as Erica's mood. She watched the rain pelting down through the sliding windows in the living room. Just as well she'd not gone to the pool this morning. Not that she would have, yesterday's debacle was too raw, too fresh. It wouldn't be the same without Guy. There would be a painful void.

She'd cried herself to sleep like she knew she would. It hurt. Not just the missed opportunity, the almost sex, the fact that she was still a virgin. The lack of completion, the frustration, the failure to reach her goal, to reach a satisfactory outcome, a climax in all its senses, all that hurt like hell.

What hurt even more was how dumb she'd been. All the signs had been there. The way he always went on about how pretty she was, his smile. His eyes, how he looked at her and how she felt when he did. She'd not known what that ache deep inside her, the flutterings meant.

He fancied her and she hadn't realised she fancied him too. She'd swatted him down when he was trying to tell her. Erica had loved the fun they'd had, the comfortable feeling he gave her, his kindness, his warmth, his humour, his strong arms, his cute bum.

She'd worried about his lack of height, how his abs and pecs could have been better. How silly. They weren't important. She knew what was. How often had she stared at his crotch, delighted in that big bulge he had? A lot. An awful lot really. She'd been so close to seeing his thingie, his cock. It had almost been in her hand. Certainly it had felt so fantastic when it was pressed so hard against her, it had made her so wondrously hot.
How brilliant it would have been when he entered her, when he pushed it inside her, when he stuck it in her, to use his quaint phrase. She just knew it. Erica had wanted to be penetrated by his stiff cock and he had everything else to go with it. It would have been truly making love not just sex.

Instead she'd been sidetracked by bloody Bill and two-timing Simon. She should have gone to the beach with Guy that time he went to play football. Made more of it the day she did, when Mummy met him and thought he was her boyfriend. He could have been and she should have kissed him at the very least. She should have spent all day, every day with him. They would have had lots of fabulous sex. Sent silly messages of their undying love to each other. Maybe even naughty pictures on WhatsApp to tide them over until they were in each other's arms again.

Instead she'd stupidly wasted the chance, didn't even know Guy's username on any social media. Erica had misread everything. Clearly she didn't know boys and love that well, nor even herself. She had a lot to learn and not just the lovemaking. Worse, Jessica was pestering for the details on Stage Seven. Sending that message had been really stupid.

The sun finally broke free. It was time to get ready for lunch with Sam and Mummy. Erica was dreading it.

THE WEATHER was improving. It should be fine for lunch. That was a relief. Rain and damp would not have been an auspicious start. Felicity checked herself in the mirror. She was wearing her new pink dress and shoes, minus the stockings this time. Not bad. Not bad at all. She could pass for 35, close enough to Sam's age to put her at ease. The new Felicity was not going to let the fact that she was 40 next birthday get in the way.

The big four-oh had been looming, dark and depressing, but now she didn't care. Men still wanted her. Felicity still had it. She was going to go for it, anything she wanted that was fun. The new positive attitude was empowering, exhilarating. She could do anything, fuck any man she wanted to, and it felt bloody great. Felicity put on the pink shell necklace that dear Teddy had bought. It was like a badge, a symbol of the new Felicity.

She'd chosen to go to Moses' for lunch. There was unfinished business between them, but she needed to be casual about it. She wasn't going to fear anything ever again. Bring it on.
