Henry's POV
The next morning I was woken up far too early. I was in that state of half asleep, but aware of everything going on. I was trying to get back to sleep when I heard the bedroom door open. Whoever was opening it, was attempting to be quiet, but it wasn't working. Little feet pattered into the room towards me and then there was a soft sniffle. I opened my eyes and found Kirstie trying to get up onto the bed. With a quick look at the clock, I found it to be 4:30 in the morning. I quickly sat up and scooped Kirstie onto my lap and saw the tear tracks running down her face.
"Baby, what's the matter?" I asked quietly.
"Scawy deam." She said, rubbing her eyes.
"Oh darling. It's alright. You're always safe here. I promise." She leant into my chest and curled herself into a ball. So cute. "Come on, you can sleep here." I led back down on the bed and put Kirstie next to me under the covers. She immediately shuffled as close to me as possible and buried her face in my neck. I began to hum a lullaby and she fell asleep a few minutes later.
I woke up again later and checked the time. It was now 8:30am. I could live with that. I looked to Kirstie to check on her and she was still curled up to me, but now she had Matt right behind her. Mitch and Scott were also in the bed. I wonder when they woke up and came in here? Oh well, it was very cute.
We were all up by 9, but it was a Saturday so none of us were dressed yet. A chilled pyjama morning sounds perfect to me. Kevin and Avi helped me make pancakes for breakfast whilst the little ones played in the living room. From where I was in the kitchen, I could keep an eye on them and the breakfast at the same time.
"Dad. Dad." I looked to Avi and he had the pan in his hands. "Watch this." He shook the pan a little, making the pancake currently in there shake, and then tossed it into the air. Amazingly he caught it in the pan on the other side.
"Woo! Good job son!" Kevin was also cheering, and gave his brother a high-five.
We finished all the pancakes a few minutes later so Kevin got the table ready and Avi started getting various jars of spreads. I went over to the living room to get the others.
"Kids, breakfast is ready." I said leaning over the sofa. Four heads turned around to look at me and every one had a smile forming.
"Up to the kitchen table please." Mitch and Scott scrambled up off the floor and ran straight to their seats at the kitchen island. Kirstie and Matt were just as excited for pancakes, but were slower off the floor. I put the pair of them in their chairs and then gave everyone their food.
Plenty of mess later, after the younger four were cleaned up with a baby wipe, we were cuddled on the sofa with a film on. I was in the middle with Matt and Kirstie on my lap. Mitch and Scott were on my left and Kevin and Avi were on my right. This was definitely what I wanted this morning. Nice and chilled. None of us got dressed until almost lunch time. The kids wanted to run around outside, but I wasn't going to let them play outside in their pj's and they knew that.
The first sign of chaos presented itself after lunchtime. It seemed like a perfectly dry day with very little cloud in the sky. All six kids were happily playing in the garden; I was keeping an eye on them from the deck so I knew they weren't getting into any trouble. It only takes a few moments of not paying attention for something to go wrong. In this case, it was me needing to go to the toilet. From nowhere, there was giant rumble of thunder as I was washing my hands.
