My name is Adeline, Adeline Fleur. Yes those Fleur of St. Louis. Im part of the old money club actually scratch that my family founded the old money club here, because we founded the settlement that is now St.Louis. The story goes my grandfather left Europe and came here did well on the east coast an then moved here and founded St. Louis. I was raised in Forrest Park going to the best private boarding school there was I made friends along the way of course only old money friends. We all still kept in touch and visit each other old money has to stay together. today I was asked to tell the kids of the old money in St. Louis what it meant to have old money "it means to have class, to not dress trashy or talk that way, it does not mean you can't have fun it means mind your behavior for the sake of the family, and always remember we are like royalty, self made royalty. We have higher standards than the new money and we never settle for less." i say and walk off the stage from the applauding crowd. I never look back it was part if the way you carry your self, I remember the run down my grandmother used to tell all of us grandchildren "shoulders back, head up, stand straight, be confident even if you have to fake it, don't let the pain show just keep smiling and the only time you are ever aloud to cry in public is at a funeral." she would say being dead serious. I couldn't help but smile as I climbed into my Cadillac thinking off the memories "never ever ride in a limo, they are for new money, ride in a Cadillac it has style and elegance." my grandmother would say. I had to go to a meeting with some people, even though me didn't have any legal power over St. Louis anyone that wanted something always asked for our approval it was a courteous and like getting a blessing from a priest, it was also how we kept incompetent fools from ruining the city. it was a concert plan to let a band play at Rams stadium. I gave the approval and went directly to the club. The old money Club of course, I went to see my grandparents who lived and owned the club so many memories there all the high class parties and family gatherings at their house it was a second home too me an I loved every minute there I knew everyone and everyone knew me as a little kid and had watched me grow up... I could almost smell the cigars and whiskey and other alcohols nothing of the cheap kind though. I grabbed a jacket as I got out, the dress code was strict even for a Fleur and my dress didn't have long enough selves. "welcome back Miss Fleur." said the valet as he took my keys. "good to see you again Henry." I say with a smile walking in the club. I see people I know and give smiles and slight head nods as I walk towards the cigar lounge where I knew I could find my grandfather. "ah Adeline there you are, would you mind pouring more whiskey for your dear old grandfather?" he says with a smile "I would love too, but I do believe Grandmother would have my head if I did." I say and we both laugh "the finances are on my desk, it was good to see you Adeline." He says knowing that's what I came for since I handle the money and finances it's a tough but enjoyable job and at least I know we aren't being cheated by someone else. I walk back towards his office only to bump into someone I didn't recognize. "oh I'm so terribly sorry Miss...." he says "Miss Fleur, don't bother it was my fault, I'm sorry if I seem a bit rude by saying this but what are you doing here?" I say a bit confused "oh, my family moved here from Kanas City, I'm old money if that's what you are wondering, old money in a new city." he says laughing a tiny bit "oh ok, I was just surprised to see anyone new here." I say "I've been getting that a lot lately, so I presume I will see you in the future." he says "yes, yes you will." I say and we go our separate ways. I walk into my grandfathers office and I immediately shut the door and thank The Lord for sound proof doors walls and windows "jackson! what are you doing!" I yell seeing him in here with a girl making out the girl was Emmy Johnson, a new money but she had more class than most...usually... she was completely embarrassed "Adeline, please don't tell anyone please." she says begging "hey Adeline, come on I'm your brother you don't do things like that to family." he said. He was right I don't rat out my family, but I was making an exception. "I don't normally but... I won't say a thing about you Emmy and ill sneak you out and then Jackson Im going to let you choose who you would rather know. Mother or Grandmother." I say with a slight smile this was payback for when he ratted me out when I had come back with several hickies and brusies from several guys on our vacation in Europe, I had been given a huge lecture about class and I was grounded... I wasn't that bad I caught up on my reading, but I've been waiting for a moment like this.... "I'd much rather if mother knew..." he says "are you ready Emmy?" I say and she nods putting her sun glasses fixed her clothes and hair, Jackson had obviously planned this because she was dressed in old money clothes, a simple classic dress in an emerald green color, which highlighted her tan skin and brown hair, she was quite pretty and could fit the bill for old money... "ok so no one should bother us but in case they so your a friend of mine from boarding school that came to visit from Boston and your name is Amanda Reginold." I say and she nods her head understanding. We walk giving smiles and slight head nods and we air kiss each others cheeks and say good bye. I walk back to the office to grab the files Jackson was gone probably off somewhere trying to hide from the truth, I smirked at the thought and I left to go to the garden where my mother was drinking her afternoon tea with a women "oh Adeline darling, I would like you to meet Mrs. Baker, she and her family just moved her from Kanas City." he says with a smile... such a hostess always a smile never a tear in sight... "it's a pleasure to meet you Mrs. Baker." I say with cheery smile "it's a pleasure to meet you too Miss Adeline, your mother ha told me so much about you, I have a son around here somewhere that's your age his name is Connor." she says with a twinkle in her eyes... of course my mother had been talking about me I was the perfect daughter, did everything right, at Least that's what they assumed..... "oh I think I may have bumped into him earlier." I say, it's getting kind of awkward I'm running out of things to say. "oh how nice, their coming over for dinner tonight, you will be joining us right darling." my mother says giving me a look saying 'if don't say yes I swear....' "of course I am, I wouldn't miss it for the world, now if you'll excuse me.." I say and they wave goodbye. I head towards a spot I know my brother is hiding, the lake house. "how did you find me here?" he asked getting scared "you've his in the same spot for as long as I've been born." I say to my older brother "well what was her reaction?" he said scared "I didn't get to tell her she was having tea with Mrs. Baker who apparently is coming over for dinner." I say "please don't say anything Addie, please I'm sorry about the hickey thing but I was also worried about you thinking if a guy got that close then... I'm sorry it was stupid and it's never going to happen again I swear, please Addie don't." He says begging he was completely sincere "I won't tell, but ever let me catch you again, I have to go do finances before dinner so goodbye Jackson." I say leaving and running into once again Connor "you were right we did run into each other again, Miss Fleur." he says laughing "sorry, Connor and please call me Adeline." I say and he looks shocked "how did you know my name." "I met your mother, I'm assuming you'll be at dinner tonight." I say "uh, yeah I guess I'll see you then." he says and we walk off but he turns around I left things unsaid leaving a hint of mystery and wonder, I feel his eyes on the back of me.. the only time old money ever looks back is if their curious, I would of looked back too but he would of saw so I kept walking all the way back to my Cadillac.
