For the Longest Time

My heart compensates
For what was lost

I am attracted to you
Because of the emptiness
Still living inside me

I don't know how
I love everything about you
How I could look into your eyes for eternity
Although they are the color of the sky

And how it feels as if
When I look at you
There is us, and only us

I haven't felt this way
For so long
I have forgotten the rush
The reckless abandon of love

But it isn't real
When we gaze into each other's eyes
We are not ourselves
Merely phantoms of the people
We really are

And when it is over
We will vanish
As if the world never noticed
That from the moment
I laid eyes on you
I loved you
