Dropping the bare branch, she rose to her feet. A cold breath whispered across the back of her neck and she shivered, but didn't turn.

The man, still sitting on his heels in the snow glanced over her shoulder once, and then returned his eyes to her.

She could hear the creak of rope on wood above her, but she closed her eyes and listened instead for the beat of her own heart.
