Chapter Seventeen, the Movies

Gilbert stood outside the women's bathroom at the cinema waiting for Ruby who was inside 'peeing'

"were at the movies and I don't know what to say or anything i think it's a date OH what if he tried to kiss me! Josie how do you kiss people!" she hissed down the phone, "you'll be FINE Ruby" Josie replied, "just be flirty not too flirty but like... you know"

"yeah" Ruby said still stressing out she hung up and went to wash her hands.

Anne and Daniel walked into theater 2 where their movie was happening, "I swear, Gilbert Blythe is so rude i can't even, UHG, he called me carrots TWICE and I am so UGHH" Anne raged as they set their things on their seats Daniel chuckled, " Why do we have to sit at the back?" he asked as he sat down,

Daniel placed a hand on the small of her back and whispered, "you ok?" she nodded, Gilbert let Ruby to their seats, clenching his jaw as the image of Daniel's hand on her back flashed through his mind. why do i feel so weird!? he thought to himself as Ruby fidgeted next to him.

Finally the lights dimmed and the movie began to play... after a few minutes Daniel leaned over to Anne and whispered, "What's happening?" the redhead rolled her eyes playfully and turned to him, "the dude with the hat is trying to get the lady to go to his house but he out the things up so she sees them and promotes him" she turned back to the screen, Daniel blinked at her still confused. meanwhile Gilbert was explaining the same thing to Ruby, "why do we have to see a old movie it's too hard to understaaand" she whispered,

"because" Gilbert said.... "because..." Anne likes them.. wait.. nO "Because they are cool" he said a little too loudly earning a few shushes from the people next to him, he smiled sheepishly, a blush creeping onto his face.

the second the movie was over Anne grabbed Daniel's hand and practically dragged him out of the theater, he stumbled out the door onto the street and stood beside her, "What was all that about?" he said with a chuckle, just as he spoke Gilbert and Ruby came out Anne's eyes hardened, she spun around and began walking, Daniel hesitated for a second before running after her, "Anne wait!" he quietly yelled as he pushed past people trying to catch up, once he did he grabbed her wrist, "dude.." he said with a sympathetic smile, "what is it?" Anne huffed, the black haired boy led her to a bench and sat her down, "tell me" he said turning and facing her, "Gilbert.. is a horrible human" he said, Daniel nodded,

"we know this.. what's really bothering you" he said

"Ruby is to good for him.. he is just a ......dumb play boy who's going to hurt her, i ... Ugh" she leaned her head on his chest taking a deep breath, Daniel wrapped his arms around her shoulders and began to stroke her hair.

on the other side of the street Gilbert and Ruby were walking together, Ruby glanced over and saw Daniel and Anne, Anne was leaning against Daniels chest as he ran his fingers through her hair,"aw" she said, "their so cute" Gilbert looked over clenched his jaw and tried to ignore the pain in his chest, "i'm gonna go home" he said

"aren't you going to walk me home?" Ruby asked wide eyed, Gilbert shook his head, "sorry i don't uh.." he glanced back at Anne, "feel well" and with that he turned around and began walking towards his house.

Gilbert slammed the door as he walked to his room and threw himself onto his bed, he lay face down on his pillow, "UGH" he yelled as he flipped over onto his back.

"Girl trouble?" Bash asked sticking his head around the door,

"no"Gilbert said rolling onto his side with a scowl,

"boy just admit you like her" the dark skinned man said shaking his head,

"I Do Not Like Anne Shirley!" Gilbert said sitting up and folding his arms, Bash smirked, "i never said who" he said, Gilbert's eyes widened, he stood up and pushed past him, "i'm going for a walk" he said.

Anne sat on her bed scowling, "UGH" she yelled as she hit her pillow with her fist, rage boiling inside her she stood up and walked out of her room, "I'm going for a walk!" she said as she slammed the door.

as she walked she angrily untied her braids, letting her hair flow past her shoulder, she had been walking for about 20 minutes when she came across a pile of logs, instantly she had an idea, she ran over to the pile and began trying to pick them up and create walls, once she had three all standing next to each other she let go and smiled as they stood there... and then they fell over, "Ugh" she muttered to herself as she picked them up again, she grabbed a vine that was hanging off a tree and tried to tie it around the longs, it fell down again, "Ugh stupid Stupid STUPID" she kicked the logs once, twice, three times.

Gilbert had been walking through the woods when he heard someone yelling, "Stupid Stupid STUPID" frowning he followed the noise and came to a stop when he saw who had been yelling. Anne. "Anne?" he said stepping closer, she spun around and glared at him, "What do you want" she said, he sighed and walked closer to her, "What are you doing?" he asked.

"shouldn't you be off.. with Ruby or something?" the redhead snapped,

Gilbert rolled his eyes, "shouldn't you be somewhere crying into Daniel's chest or something?"

Anne scoffed, "wow, just.. wow"

"What." Gilbert said

"you were the one who was being weird in the first place! you show no interest in Ruby and then suddenly your asking her on a date?!"

"yeah.. well.. Maybe i like Ruby!" Gilbert said, instantly his eyes widened with regret the second he saw the hurt in her eyes,

clenching her jaw she looked right into his soul, "goodbye Blythe." she said "oh and for your information i was making a hut for me and my Friends." and with that she walked away.

"Anne wait" Gilbert said, "Anne"

But she was already gone.
