"I say..." Gilbert said getting out a bowl and setting it on the bench " we make brownies"
"Cool," anne said, pulling out a spoon from one of the drawers.
"we need to google a recipe though because there aren't any here" he said making Anne scoff, "i don't need a recipe to make brownies, Marilla has only like 40 recipe books so i've read them all and know them all off my heart" Gilbert stared at her in shock,"what" anne said after he didn't say anything.
"why did you just read 'normal' books" he asked,
anne shrugged, "when I first came to green gables I didn't really have anything of my own so I just read what I could . I suppose" she said, starting to pour flour into a bowl. Gilbert hummed in response.
the brownies burnt.
Anne and Gilbert had been sitting on the floor side by side talking about everything and nothing when Ruby had come down asking if anything was on fire when they finally remembered the brownies in the oven.
"Ohmygod" anne said, jumping up and rushing over to the oven door and swiftly opening it, smoke billowed out making anne stumble backwards coughing. Gilbert cackled.
"It's not funny!" Anne managed to choke out before having another coughing fit making Gilbret laugh even more. When he finally calmed down he grabbed a cloth and picked up the tray of burnt brownies and tipped them into the bin, "hey!" Anne exclaimed, "I was gonna eat those!"
Gilbert chuckled, "no you weren't" making Anne huff.

"okay" Mr Phillips said in a bored voice as everyone stood around him. "can everyone parter up girl-boy please"
Anne rolled her eyes and leaned over to Diana standing beside her, "he's so sexist, girls dont need boys to help them bloody rock climb" she jumped when someone tapped her shoulder, "care to be my partner?" Gilbert said with a shy grin.
"I um.. yes yes sure yes" Anne stutterd blushing. so they climbed into their harnesses and climbed the rock wall. well Anne got about halfway up.
"Anne just jump the rope will catch you" Mr Phillips snapped for the fifth time tapping his foot agitatedly.
"I can't," Anne whimpered, turning her head away.
"Anne" gilbert said as gently as he could, "do you trust me?" Anne glanced down at him before hesitantly nodding. "so trust me, jump and the rope will catch you, i promise." Anne took a shaky breath, closed her eyes and leappad backwards.
"i did it!" Anne gasped when her feet hit the ground, she turned around to face Gilbert who had a huge grin on his face. He grinned as the redhead spun around to face Diana. "whipped" Charlie muttered from behind him. "shut up" Gilbert said shoving him.
"ok" Josie said while applying another layer of lipgloss "lunchtime is over in 10 minutes so i say we play truth or truth" the group groaned. "i'll go first" she said with a smirk, "Anne.... do you have a crush"
Anne stared at her, she licked her lips as her eyes darted around the circle of people all staring at her, "well?" Josie snapped.
"i um.. no?" she said, Diana snorted, "ok fine yes"Anne said blushing.
"who!!!!!? do tell us Anne" Josie said in a mocking tone.
"It's not your turn anymore" Anne snapped her face bright red, "uhm.. ruby who's your crush" Anne blabbered trying to take the attention off her.
"anne!" ruby gasped, "why would you ask me that you know who" she stopped abruptly as jerry walked over,
"hey goiz" he said glancing at ruby, " what are we uh.. doing"
"Well we have time in the pool with Miss Stacy now... so we should go now if we want to be on time" Jane said looking up from her phone.
"It's too cold to be swimming at this time of the year," anne mutterd bumping shoulders with Cole as they began to walk.
"everyone get into teams of three please" Miss stacy said as she slid into the pool. Anne and Diana instantly made eye contact and grinned, Anne, Diana,Ruby and Jerry all stood to the side awaiting instructions. "ok" their teacher said, "one team has to sit to the side for the first round of volleyball because there is an uneven amount of teams... any volunteers?" Jerry's hand shot up, much to the dismay of Anne and Diana their team made their way towards the edge of the pool,
"Diana!" a voice that made Annes heart jump. Anne stood next to jerry and ruby pretending to be interested in their conversation but her attention was trained on Gilbert who was talking to diana, who let out a loud laugh before slapping his bare shoulder and swimming back over to Anne, "good luck" she whispered before swimming over to Gilberts team, huh anne thought to herself in confusions.
"Hey," Gilbert said as he came up to their team eyeing Jerry and Ruby with a grin as they both had to look away from each other blushing. "you alright mate?" he said to Jerry, "m'fine" he said before "you alright?" he asked, his eyes glancing between him and Anne. Gilbert stood up a little taller. "mhm" he grunted. Anne and Ruby stared at them. "ookay.... once you guys are finished with your... whatever that is'' Anne said waving her hands between them, "would you e so kind as to tell us why Diana has ditched us?"
"right!" Gilbert said, "im uh... we swapped."
Anne rolled her eyes, "Really?" she mock gasped making Ruby snigger,
"so" Gilbert said climbing up to sit next to Anne on the edge of the pool, "ruby and jerry huh"
Anne smiled, "yeah, they're cute aren't they"
"yeah........... so you uhm.." Gilbert awkwardly cleared his throat, "you have a crush on someone"
Anne froze.

please let the roof collaps and crush me right now she thought to herself as she tried to keep her breathing under controll.
"I um.. y-yeah" she said blushing.
"hmm" Gilbert hummed, "who" he said bluntly. Annes head snapped up so fast she was surprised she didn't get whiplash.
"um" she said her eyes darting around the pool in search of something to say
"It's um..."
Gilbert was now looking intently at her.
"w.. its uhm.. b...illy?" anne stammered out her eyes landing on the boy as he walked into the pool.
"what" gilbert spluttered.
"yeah.... billy...." Anne said, gripping her hands together so much her nails left marks.
"right" Gilbert said turning back to the pool, "...ok" ANne was too busy mentally bunching herself to notice the crack in his voice.
Miss Stacy blew her whistle "Team swapping" she called and Anne jumped into the water faster than she had ever moved before and raced over to Diana.
"Diana" she hissed, making her raven haired friend jump.
"gosh anne" she said with a giggle that was cut short when she saw her stricken face, "woah Anne whats wrong"
"i um.." Anne murmerd glancing over her shoulder to where Gilbert stood talking to Charlie, "i fucked up"
