The Path

Ilene appeared just outside the city of Maciggit

Ilene appeared just outside the city of Maciggit, the capitol of Macig.

Captains Fisher and Carson were with her.

"What will you have us do, My Lady?" Captain Fisher asked.

.

Ilene looked toward the city. She could see the demons atop the buildings. There was little indication that they were aware of the new arrivals.

Ilene was relieved.

"Captain Fisher. You take your men into the city. They will drive the demons to the air," she directed.

.

"By your leave, my Lady."

He disappeared.

.

Ilene turned to Captain Carson. "Have your men assemble near the lake over there. Keep them invisible, until I give you the order."

.

"As you command."

.

Captain Fisher's Spirits were like an army of ants scrambling over the land and into the city.

The demons, now completely aware of the intruders, took to the air immediately.

.

Ilene could see Spirits swarming the sides of buildings and jumping at demons, pulling them to the ground, screaming as they fell.

She watched in amazement, as the soldiers formed Spirit ladders to get to demons taking flight. She smiled as she watched the Spirits quickly crawl atop each other and stand on each other's shoulders, as they moved. As many as ten Spirits would stack together, with the top Spirit leaping and grabbing a passing demon. As soon as the Spirit took down its prey, another Spirit would take its place and the process started all over again.

Ilene shook her head slightly. It was like watching an old cartoon, the way the Spirit ladders formed, while at full running speed.

But her amusement was short lived as shadows passed over her head.

The sky was now black with demons. They were unorganized and seemed confused. unsure as to what to do. Ilene knew that Lillianna was blocking their mental messages to Angelita.

Ilene was sure that their only directions had been to keep the citizens of the city in their homes. She was almost absolutely positive that there had been no contingency plan for a possible attack. Now without direction from their leader, the demons were confused and uncontrolled.

Exactly the state that Ilene had hoped they would be. She knew that Angelita would not have assigned individual leaders, as her pride and arrogance would not allow any to be on her level.

Ilene opened her arms as wide as she could, stretching them to their limits on each side of her. Slowly she began to move her arms back to the front of her body.

As she did, a huge section of the flying demons were pulled together. Many fell from the sky, tangled in other demons.
