Disquietude of My Heart

Chapter 7

                      Whimpers.. Snivels...Sobs...Shaurya groaned as he heard them in his sleep. His fingers trod to find warmth of his mate's body but failed. He quickly opened his eyes to realise, it was her tears and sorrow. Like a scared pup, Mehek was cowered to a corner. She clutched on to the sheet that covered her body as if her life dependent on it. "Mehek, please don't cry", he extended his hand to reach her but she moved away. "Please don't hurt me", she begged in fear and wept. It broke his heart to realise that she was still afraid of him. "Mehek, my love. You are my mate. I will never hurt", he tried to persuade her. "But you always did. I can't trust you", she spat at him and wept bitterly. "Mehek, please let me explain", he tried to grab her shoulders. She slapped away his hands and sneered, "Don't touch me". Her anger quickly moved to fear and she trembled. Shaurya held his hands up in defeat and stayed apart as he didn't want to upset her. Mayhap it was better if she vents out her sorrow. She wept and rocked body to calm herself. 

"Mehek, relax. Else you will harm yourself", he reasoned with her. "I lost everything", she whimpered, "You snatched it all". "I am sorry, Love", he felt guilty. "As a man you can boast it. I am just another conquest for you", she sniveled, "But I am ruined". He sat idle, taking in her accusations and not defending himself. "I was saving myself for the man I love. Not to some creature like you who unleashed his wrath on me to punish me", she wept again. "I am ruined", she repeated , "my life is over. Why don't you just kill me and fulfill your revenge?". "Enough", he couldn't take it anymore. He pulled her into his arms and wrapped his arms around her protectively. Despite her misery and fear, she found comfort in his warmth. She leaned on to him while he rubbed her back to soothe her. "I will not let any harm befall on you. You are my life and love. I will protect you till last breath of my life", he vowed. His words gave pacified her but she was unable to control her tears. Quickly she came back to her senses and shocked at her reaction. "Stay away from me", she pushed him away and screamed.

Shaurya waited outside while Sunaina was checking Mehek. He eagerly approached their pack doctor when she came out of his room. "How is Mehek? Is there anything to worry?", he was anxious. "She is much better, Alpha. Her heart break is cured and she isn't critical anymore", Sunaina's words calmed him. "The... pain...", he stammered. "She is a human, Alpha Shaurya. Unlike she-wolves, she won't heal quickly. But more than physical pain, she suffering from mental agony", she informed Shaurya, "you have to help her understand and overcome it". He nodded and thanked her as he took her leave.

"Mehek, please have some food", he requested her holding a tray of food. "I want to go home", she spat at him. It's been couple of days since she got better. From then, she went on repeating the same demand. "Mehek, this is your home. You are my mate. Haven't I explained enough?", he was on verge of losing it but contained himself. "I heard it all. You made a mistake of abducting me in place of Nehal and ended up harming me. And your twisted logic on soulmates,rejection and heart break. Then your reason to get intimate with me , inorder to save my life. I have had enough. I don't want to understand it. I need to go home", she cried out loud and started to sob. "Can't you atleast give it a try?", he requested her. "You don't understand. Back home, I have a life which I love and don't want to abandon. People whom I love dearly and care about", it pained her to recall her family and friends. He peered into her mind. Being mated to his Luna, he was able to read her mind. He could see flashes of faces, men and women. "I miss them all. I feel suffocated as I don't belong here", she told sadly, "You can rest assured that I won't retaliate. I want to forget everything and get on with my life. I won't tell a soul what you did to me. I promise".  Shaurya couldn't take it anymore and left her alone.

"I was afraid of this", Rajeev told with a sigh, "Atleast she didn't reject you". It was true however it didn't pacify Shaurya and shared his concern,"I am afraid to lose her". "Let her go", his gamma's advice startled him. "Never", Vivaan sneered at Rajeev before Shaurya could react. He turned to his Alpha, "Shaurya don't listen to him. She needs to be beside you so that you can knock some sense into her". "Vivaan, it will not work but worsen. She could fall into depression", Rajeev told plainly. "Why can't you once think about our friend ? Think about his sorrow and loneliness ", Vivaan accused him and Rajeev couldn't defend himself. As a Beta, Vivaan's prime duty was to protect his alpha whereas being Gamma, Rajeev was more onto protecting their Luna. Besides, Rajeev's bitter past and his inclination to fairer sex, made him support Mehek. Shaurya perfectly understood Rajeev who was like a big brother for him also. It took a huge effort from him and Vivaan to pull Rajeev out of self-destruction mode when he had lost his younger sister. "Would you allow me to talk to her?", Rajeev offered his help. Both Vivaan and Shaurya were surprised by his proposal. Vivaan looked at Shaurya and then back to Rajeev. "Give it a try but I am not sure she will be receptive", Shaurya gave his consent.

"Who are you? Why are you here?", Mehek moved to corner of her room as Rajeev entered. "Luna, please relax. I will never hurt. I am Gamma of your pack and my sole duty is to protect you", Rajeev quickly explained. "Stop this Luna non-sense. It is killing me", she screamed, pulling out her hair. "Ok..Ok...I won't. Lu....I mean Mehek, can we please sit down and talk. I won't take much time", he pleaded her. Once Mehek sat down, he looked at her and smiled amicably, "My sister's cloths suits you". Mehek looked down at herself and smiled a bit, "I hope she doesn't mind that I am using it". His smile faded and he told plainly, "she is no more". "I am sorry", she actually felt bad for him. "Mehek, you are like my sister. So please believe me when I tell you that I know what you are going through now. But please don't blame Shaurya entirely for it", he begged her. "Then whom shall I blame for my predicament? Do you want to accuse me for getting kidnapped, nearly killed and being exploited by him", she was on edge. "No. No. No. That not what I meant. The situation went out of control. Your father used you as a decoy to protect your sister", he explained but paused sensing her sorrow. 

It pained Mehek to realise that her father had a hand in it , still she didn't loosen her hold, "It doesn't pacify me that my sister was supposed to endure this pain in my place. You leader has no right to hurt me or Nehal". Before Rajeev could explain, she cut him in, "I don't want to hear another word against my father or my family. Your boss is a heartless beast who took immense pleasure in tormenting me and then ruined me. His actions cannot be excused easily". "Mehek, he loves you. He will be broken if you leave him", Rajeev told her emotionally. "I doubt so. He knows that there is plenty of fish whom he could use for his pleasure. He will move on", she recalled him smooching another woman, "even if you are telling the truth then also I think he deserves it". "You will not be happy either", he told her. "Is it a threat?", she became cautious. "No, it isn't but the truth. Your mate's sadness will affect you too", he informed. "I don't care. Just let me out of here. I will be happy with my family & friends", she remained adamant.

Shaurya gave into her pleas and decided to let her go. He had summoned her to his office in the morning and shared his decision that Rajeev will take her home. Mehek was so happy but she didn't fail to notice his sorrow. "Before you leave, I want to ask you...", she didn't allow him to complete and cut in. "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about what happened to me. You can trust me", she told in haste but noticed that it hurt him more. "That's not what I meant to ask you. I want you to be very careful near your father. He is very dangerous and cunning. I am afraid he may hurt you when he realises that you are my mate and Luna", he quickly filled in. Mehek sighed in dismay and agreed. She knew her father had little interest in her welfare and after knowing that he just used her for his own benefit, she wanted to be away from him as far as possible. She just wanted to free herself from a world unknown to her, a supernatural world in which her father and Shaurya resided. 

They stood silent, none making a move. Shaurya wanted to capture her in his arms and kiss her ardently but he refrained. After a curt goodbye, Mehek got into the car and left with Rajeev. He safely drove Mehek to her home. She felt extremely glad when her house came into vision. She was about leave when Rajeev spoke, "Mehek, even you don't accept us, we are still family. So please feel free to contact us incase you need anything". Mehek nodded but she was determined never to step into their world ever again. She ran to her home without even sparing him another glance.

"Alphas are supposed to be adamant and possessive, especially for their mates. I wonder why Shaurya let her go?", Vivaan was clearly unhappy by turn of the events. Rajeev smirked, "Becoz Shaurya is one of a kind. He is a diamond. He is stronger and braver than any of us. He trully loves her and considered her happiness above him". "May be. But it is killing him and eventually Luna Mehek will also be affected", Vivaan pointed out. "You reap what you sow, Buddy. Let's hope that his good deeds will have a positive effect", Rajiv wished and they looked at Shaurya who was working out vigorously in the gym
