Disquietude of My Heart

Chapter 24

     "You cannot hide forever, my dearest Son-in-law", DK's spiteful mocking didn't perturb Shaurya. He remained seated in the conference room where he had come to crack an importance business deal. It's been few weeks since Shaurya absconded from DK's radar along with Mehek. DK walked and took a seat before him. They sat facing one another. "I waited patiently as I knew you will come out of the safety of your pack house", DK taunted him again. "What do you want DK?", Shaurya came to the point quickly. "Where are my daughters?", DK shot immediately. Shaurya squinted his eyes while DK laughed. "You took away Mehek in pretense of a short trip but never came back. I trusted you but you backstabbed me. Although I don't have any proofs, it is evident that you have a hand in Nehal's disappearance too".

Sharuay smirked, "Mehek is my mate and my Luna. She is where she belongs. Rest assured that she is safe and happy. Well about Nehal, I owe an explanation", he stood and walked towards his father-in-law, "she sought my protection and I agreed to help her. Afterall she is carrying my brother's child". DK shivered in anger and dismay. He understood that Nehal is better dead than returning with an illegitimate child. "You can keep Nehal. Just send back Mehek and we will consider it as truce", DK proposed. "Never", Shaurya shook his head. 

"Mehek may have swayed to your wishes under effects of heat. But soon she will want to be free from you and run back to her affectionate father", DK spoke wickedly. "You are a far cry from a good parent. You used you own children for your selfish motives", Shaurya accused him. "Hold you horses, Son-in-law. I didn't ask Shruti or Ajay to spoil your bond. When i came to know about it, I sensed a good opportunity and cashed on it. When I knew about Mehek's predicament, I persuaded Shruti to handover her to me. Wasn't it a good deed? Else Mehek would have suffered more", DK tried to play good. "The right thing to do was to expose Shruti and save Mehek. But you aided to separate us and fuel Mehk's hatred towards me. You destroyed her peace and happiness", Shaurya retorted. "Still I want Mehek back. I believe you have mated during her heat and she is with your child", DK spoke plainly, "I need your first born. After that you can take her back".

Shaurya balled his fists and tried hard to rein his anger. "I will never send Mehek back to you. Neither will she come to you on her own". The confidence in his voice made DK rethink. "Oh, so you have told her the truth", he smirked, "Do you think she will trust you completely? Even if it is pure truth, a fragment of doubt will always remain in her mind. One day when opportunity comes, I will use it to my advantage", DK challenged Shaurya. "No, Father. You clarified all my doubts", DK was startled by Mehek's soft voice.

Mehek took short strides towards Shaurya and stood beside him. She was shaken by DK's revelations. DK understood that Shaurya had tricked him to spill his secrets before Mehek. He knew it is of no use to act anymore. "Hope you haven't forgotten that I have Meera. She is still under my custody", DK threatened them. Mehek painfully realised that DK had played her all along. "Ma is safety settled in hospital of our pack", Mehek confidently told DK. Shaurya noticed that she emphasized on the word OUR while addressing about the pack. DK was fuming and threw his chair to the wall. "This means WAR", he roared at Shaurya, "You cannot defeat me Alpha Shaurya. I have powerful allies. You pack stands no chance to win".

"Allies? You mean Blood moon Pack. Their alpha is already aware of your power hungry plans and Nehal's truth. You should be happy that he didn't attack you yet", Shaurya taunted him. DK was taken aback as he knew he was losing his ground. "Still I will fight you. Until last wolf of my pack is dead, I will fight", he declared. "No, you won't, Sir", Sanjay's calm voice startled DK. "Shut up, Imbecile", DK roared but Sanjay didn't pay any heed. "Your son Mohit has taken over your Alpha position and the pack has accepted him with open arms. They are fed up under you tyrannical reign". DK felt like a deer caught in trap. "Where is your loyalty?", DK's voice wavered. "My loyalty is towards my Alpha. So I am dutifully obeying Alpha Mohit's commands to exile you", he grabbed DK's arms and spoke compassionately, "I appeal you to exit gracefully". DK finally had to acknowledge his defeat.

Few months later

Mehek stood in Vicky's room where Nehal had been allowed to stay. She looked at her portrait painted by Vicky. "It's a beautiful painting", Nehal spoke from behind. Mehek turned and smiled, "Vicky was talented". "Absolutely. He painted it by memorising the photographs I have shown to him. It was a surprise for you. He wanted to impress you with this awesome birthday gift", Nehal's voice wavered a bit towards the end. "Nehal, why don't you stay here with us?", Mehek asked her while checking the packed luggages. Nehal shook her head, "Compromise or not, I am still Luna of Blood Moon Pack and mated to their Alpha. It's my calling. I made a choice to break up with Vicky and need to bear the consequences". Nehal looked at her baby who was fast asleep in her crib. "Don't worry about Sneha. I cannot substitute her mother but I will try my best to take care of her", Mehek promised, "she will always be your daughter". Nehal nodded and carried the painting, "I am taking this with me. It's a memory of Vicky". Mehek agreed and embraced her.

Mehek waved as the vehicle drove away. Shaurya came beside and side hugged her, "Alpha of Blood Moon pack is ruthless but he is aged now and got wiser. He needs her to rule and prosper. He has agreed to give her a chance and treat her well. ". "What if he hurts her?", Mehek was anxious. "Then I will know it immediately and they will have to bear the consequences . Besides, Nehal is always welcome to our pack. She is my niece's mother", Shaurya explained. "We should have insisted her to remain with us", Mehek was still not convinced. "Nehal is born leader and a person meant to rule. She would have been miserable if she stayed here under our hierarchy. Above all, we would have become enemies to Blood Moon pack for taking their Luna", Shaurya tried to explain. 

Mehek looked down being sad and he lifted her chin to face him, "Leaving her child behind is not an easy deed but Nehal chose it. Let's support her and appreciate her courage". Mehek quickly  hugged him. "Please never leave me alone, Shaurya", she was scared. "Not in this life time", he promised her humourously. Mehek smiled and he leaned to kiss her but they were interrupted by a shrill cry of an infant. "I think Sneha has woken up. She might be hungry", Mehek told him shyly. "Let's take care of our Sneha. She is now Ours", Shauyra intertwined their fingers and they both walked inside. "I love you", she whispered into his ears. "I love you more", he declared vehemently and pecked her lips.
