Snape found me in our sitting room, staring into the fire. Taking the seat Lucius Malfoy had been previously sitting in, he saw my concerned look.

"What did Malfoy have to say?" He asked.

"He wants me to marry his son." I said, trying to keep the distaste out of my voice. Snape gave me a surprised look.

"Draco Malfoy?" He said, shocked. I nodded and gave him a sardonic smile before turning back to the fire. After a moment, he continued, "I hope you told him no. That child is a prat in class."

I started to laugh. The whole situation was ridiculous. The fact that a grown man of high standing pitched a fit because I would not marry his son. It was like a bad joke.

"He stormed out in a huff," I told Snape, "It was like telling a child he couldn't have a piece of candy before dinner." Snape chuckled at the image.

"Malfoy is not used to not getting his way." He replied, then glanced over and picked up the book sitting on the side table.

"Pride and Prejudice?" He asked, looking back at me.

"An old favorite of mine," I confessed, glad in a change of subject. I relaxed and leaned back in my chair.

"A very good read," Snape agreed, setting it back on the table, "It's been years since I read it myself. But to be honest, I did not peg you for a reader." I cocked my head in interest.

"Oh?"

With a chuckle, he clarified, "You are a warrior and a scholar, a rare combination."

"No rarer than you." I replied, getting up and grabbing a bottle of brandy and two glasses from the sidebar. I held it up in question, and Snape nodded.

Pouring us each a glass, I went on, "When I proposed a marriage alliance to the Minister, I had no idea that my first offer would come from someone like Malfoy." I handed one glass to Snape, who looked thoughtful.

"Miss (Y/N)," He said, swirling his brandy lazily in his glass, "Would you mind joining me for a walk on the grounds tomorrow? The weather is supposed to be nice." I sat back down, sipping my own drink.

Smiling, I replied, "I would like that very much."
