Maybe, in the end, she will be killed despite her struggles to keep the problem from arising. But she knew she wasn't the one in control. She never has never been since the very beginning.

She was simply a toy to play with.

And there was nothing she could do about it.

***

Y/N hasn't left her hotel room for hours now since she had awakened in the hallway. After cleaning herself up, she laid in bed. The certain solitary feeling of her enclosed room has left her comfortable. Maybe if she stayed here and rotted away she would no longer have to fear the things she didn't have any knowledge of.

The room had white walls that were printed with small purple flowers. The hotel was old; flecks of paint were missing and the bed creaked whenever she moved. She didn't mind much of the rooms state, as long as she had somewhere to stay she wouldn't complain.

Her phone rings again, for the fourth time in the last hour. It was Daniel and he had also resorted to spamming her with text messages. She didn't want to talk to him. She never wanted to talk to him again because she would risk the possibility of him being caught up in this mess. She would never forgive herself for hurting the only person she cared about. In the end, she turns her phone off both in irritation and to stop herself from caving in.

Tossing her phone on the nightstand, she remains laying on the bed. Sunlight has leaked through the curtains and was coming into the room, slivers of light illuminated the small space. Squinting against the gentle light, Y/N feels herself at peace and soaks up the gentle warmth in the silence. Moments like these always kept her okay, kept her at peace with her mind just for a bit. She hopes it would last forever. Hopes that this feeling along with the remains of her mind won't disappear.

Feeling soothed in the morning light, she bids herself over and over not to fall asleep even if she was utterly exhausted and worn down. She would not risk it, even if sleep would have to eventually come she would try her best to stay awake at the moment. Y/N makes a mental note to buy a lot of energy drinks and coffee later.

After a while, she losses connection with reality and stares blankly out the window until sunlight no longer shined through the window. Until it was dark outside and until the room had grown very cold. She isn't sure what time it was now. Maybe past midnight. The last time she checked her phone it was 9 in the morning.

Her thoughts felt fuzzy and her ears were constantly filled with static. She was so tired, felt so drained because she has only gotten a few hours of sleep in the past four days. She couldn't think, she felt as if her body was shutting down.

She has started to hallucinate. She sees people coming into her hotel room, out of the corner of her eye. But when she snaps her head in the direction nobody is there. She sees shadows of people on the wall who are not actually there, hears noises that weren't supposed to be there.

Y/N isn't sure if the faceless man is messing with her head or if she is suffering from sleep deprivation. She decided then that sleeping would be her only escape of the insanity running around in her head. Maybe if she fell asleep now it would all go away. She didn't care if the creature made her wake up somewhere else other than her bed again. She didn't care and knew she only thought that because she wanted to sleep so desperately.

Y/N fell asleep, not being able to take it anymore.

Y/N wakes up but she doesn't dare to move. There was something there. She felt the sickening presence. She could see him at the end of her bed from the corner of her eyes.

Her heart starts to race, jumping in her throat each pump. Y/N stays stiff and frozen, begging for it in her mind to go away. To leave her alone. She finally looks up at his blank face, where it should be at least.

The man lurks under the veil of white for his face, black clothes his body. It's presence lingers and it conceals dark desires while it waits for her to react first. It silently taunts her to move, daring her as despair is all she knows.

In her dwelling, Y/N tries to cower away deeper in her blankets. Wanting to take solace in slumber but she couldn't do that anymore. To her, it seemed as if the very room that shelters her will soon become her grave.

She lets out a breath she didn't realize she was holding, her lungs not daring to inhale as the tense atmosphere becomes filled with fear. She didn't know what to do, didn't know how to react. This was only the fourth time it had actually approached her up close, other times she always saw him from far away and she could actually run. Here, situated in her bed, she couldn't run because she was scared he may actually kill her this time.

Y/N gazes over at her hotel door just feet away. She could at least try. She shoots up in bed, ready to take off and escape. But when she stands up, her feet pressed to the carpeted floor, the tall faceless man was already gone. Her hand grasps the shirt above her chest, she then notices she was gasping aloud. Her lungs have tightened and it feels as if someone was sitting on her rib cage. She can hear her heart in her ears, her hands shook wildly and they wouldn't stop.

Finally getting a hold of her surrounding, she ignores the dull pain pulsing from her chest and gathers her belonging into her duffle bag. She doesn't bother folding her clothes, goes to the bathroom, and collects her toothbrush and hairbrush. Once her things were all packed, she rushed out of the hotel room and still felt as if she was dying. She felt like she was going to lose her mind and she couldn't stop hyperventilating.

Y/N decides not to take the elevator down, she couldn't stay still. Too much panic and adrenaline were pumping through her body leaving her a restless mess yet her legs felt weak.

Her feet hit the steps of the stairs down, each time her foot collided down it echoed in her ears. It still felt as if the faceless man was there, watching her from behind. Following her from behind. This only makes Y/N run down the stairs quicker, almost tripping over her own feet in the process.

When she reaches the lobby that was dimmed with lighting, she doesn't waste any time to push open one of the glass doors. She relishes the moment the cool summer breeze hits her skin as she steps out. Only then did she notice she wasn't wearing any shoes, she had stuffed them in her duffle bag in a hurry and didn't think too much about putting them on instead.

In the process of speed walking towards her car, she catches the burning scent of cigarette smoke when she almost runs into someone. The person catches her by both shoulders, startling her.

"Whoa, careful." The man looked familiar. Where has she seen him before?

Y/N meets his eyes and in the faint light coming from the hotel casting across his face, she recognizes him immediately. He was the man who found her collapsed in the hallway yesterday. When she awoke there confused, with her nose bleeding and her mind jumbled.

"Sorry, " Y/N says quietly, trying to quiet her still rapid breathing though it couldn't be helped. She had no control. She is filled with complete horror. With paranoia.

The man studies her, his eyebrows furrow. "You look shaken up..." He starts to say, stops when she pulls away from his hands grasping her shoulders.

"I'm fine." She quickly walks around him, repositioning her bag on her shoulder.

She only walks a few feet away from the man when she notices the faceless creature near her car, secluded by a few trees. Watching.

Stopping, Y/N turns back around the other way. No thanks.

The man gazes at her in curiosity as she walks past him again, this time back towards the hotel doors. She probably looked ridiculous, but she would rather be that than dead.

As soon as she was in the hotel again, Y/N drops her bag on the floor in utter defeat and sits against the wall in the lobby. Cupping her face in her hands, she sighs shakily. The panic from before slowly fading away and she can finally breathe normally. The only thing she could do now was wait for the faceless man to go away.

She just hopes she didn't have to wait long.
