Imagine Alec knew Isabelle and [name] didn't get along with each other and he hated that. He wanted his sister and boyfriend to like each other and for it not to be so awkward when the three of them were in a room together.
He asked them both to try for him, knowing they both loved him enough to do so. Isabelle and [name] had spent the day together and Alec was busying himself, trying to keep the worried thoughts out of his mind.
"So..." Isabelle started as she entered the room. "He's still a dick but... I guess he's not that bad."
Alec smiled brightly, pulling his sister into a tight hug, "thank you."
