Rae tried to call Maya but Maya's aunt answered the phone. Apparently Maya had been really tired and fallen asleep right after school. Rae tried to pass this off as good because Rae knew Maya had slight insomnia, but Rae couldn't help but feel sad at not being able to talk to Maya. There was a few times Rae felt awful for just being able to call Maya.
Maya had moved in with her cousin after her parents died in a car crash. Rae knew Maya missed them terribly. They were wonderful, caring people. Rae knew some of Maya's old friends didn't have her new phone number but Maya had asked Rae not to tell anyone, so she didn't. She had told one friend she had the number but that friend, Maddy, had tried to get the number and kept guilt tripping Rae. Saying it was awful of Rae to keep it from her when Maya was her friend too. Rae would often hide in her closet and cry silently feeling so conflicted and awful. Rae tried to call Maya tonight to ask what to do and just because she missed her.
