Chapter Sixteen | Not So Perfect Birthday

Ember's POV:

I was barely able to go move after eating the large breakfast my dad had made me. He fixed birthday cake pancakes, which are filled with sprinkles and a lot of vanilla. On top is a dollop of vanilla cake icing. I was practically in a sugar coma. He told me to have a good day before I left to go to college. Anyone else would have probably stayed home on their birthday, but I've never done that. If my birthday is on a week day I've always went to school. The new Hollywood Vampires song, called Who's Laughing Now played through my car speakers as I drove towards the college. "Everything you don't say. The gift of truth pushed me away. Everything you did say, never mattered anyway." I sang along as I drove and pressed my thoughts to the back of my mind. Deep down I desperately hoped that my professors weren't going to give us a lot of homework, or a lot of work in general. Once I got to the college I went into the building and headed to my first class. My professor had to point out that it was my birthday, which made a bunch of people start asking how old I turned today. Eventually it was lunch time. To my surprise I was actually hungry despite the large breakfast my dad had cooked for me. I ordered a salad and a water. "Since it's your birthday, you get a free treat of your choice." The cashier lady in the cafeteria said after I placed my order. I ended up picking out a chocolate chip cookies. "Happy birthday by the way." She said and I thanked her. After getting my food, I went to the library so I could meet up with Onyx in a study room. When I kicked on the door he opened it with a huge smile on his face. "Hey! Happy birthday, Ember. Come here." He said as he opened his arms to me. We hugged each other before taking seats at the table. I took my food out of the bag I was carrying and dug right in. Later we were going to have a birthday party at my place with him and Johnny. I was so excited to spend time with my favorite people in the entire world. "So, how has your day been going so far?" I asked him curiously. He stopped typing on his laptop and looked up at me before running a hand through his hair. "It's been alright. I just have a lot of stuff to get done for my classes. What about you?" He said with a deep sigh. "My day has been going good as well. I just can't wait to see Johnny. We haven't been able to spend time together since Halloween." I said. "Awww. I love how much you two love each other. It's so cute and sweet." He said, which made me smile and blush slightly. After lunch we said our goodbyes even though I was going to take Onyx home with me after he was finished with his classes. When I walked towards the poetry class I was stopped in the hallway. "Happy birthday cutie. My friend told me you're turning twenty two today." A guy I recognized as one of the jocks Onyx's roommate hangs around. He has short bleach blond hair, hazel colored eyes, and a tan skin tone. The shirt he was wearing was a cyan blue polo shirt and the shirts he had on were white. "Yeah, it is my birthday and I am twenty two today. But... I really need to get to class." I said as I attempted to walk past him. "Hey, not so fast," He said as he blocked my way. "I have to give you your present." He said and quickly grabbed me. I cringed when he kissed me on the lips and held me right so I couldn't move. In that moment the worst thing that could have happened, happened. Johnny walked around the corner and froze when he saw me being assaulted. A sad look filled his eyes and I felt my heart break. I wanted to scream out to him, but I couldn't. He left quickly and ran out of a door that lead outside. 'No! Johnny! Wait!' I yelled inside of my head. All of a sudden anger spread through me and I gamed my knee really hard and forcefully into the man's crotch. He pushed me away and went down on his knees as he held his groin. "You bitch!" He yelled. I wiped my mouth on my jacket sleeve and ran out the door that Johnny left out of. My anger was replaced with desperate panic as I went on a mission to try and find Johnny. My chest was starting to feel tight and my breathing started to be a little more difficult. Eventually I spotted him up to his elbows in the merky looking pond that was in the college garden. It was very secluded, so I wouldn't have found him if I wasn't really looking. "Johnny, what are you doing?" I asked him curiously. There were tears streaming down his cheeks, which broke my heart. Seeing him cry made my soul and insides ache. His hair was a little messy as well. "I saw you kissing that guy. I... I know he's younger than me, but... I." He said, trailing off. I threw my backpack in the grass and tossed the jacket I was wearing on top of it as well before going into the pond myself. "Wait. What are you doing? You don't know how to swim!" He said once he seen that I was joining him. He hurried towards me and wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close. "He kissed me without consent. I didn't kiss him back, Johnny. You're the only one I want." I said as I gently wiped the tears from his face. "I'm sorry, Ember. I shouldn't have thought you were going to cheat on me or leave me. I'm so stupid." He said softly. "It's okay. You're not stupid. I probably would have reacted the same way... well... I wouldn't have walked into a pond." I said as I brushed his hair out of his face. I placed my hands on his chest and we gently nuzzled our noses against each other's. "I love you." I said softly. "I love you too, Ember." He said softly before kissing my lips gently. His lips were so soft and perfect. Unlike the rude ass hat that forced himself on me, Johnny really knows how to kiss a girl. "We should get out of here before we catch a cold. Not to mention the fact that we're late for class." I said with a small laugh. There was a some anxiety brewing in my stomach just thinking about it. Especially since Johnny and I both were soaking wet from the pond water. Everyone would know he and I were at the same place at the same time if we both walked into the classroom. "It's okay, I actually cancelled class for this afternoon. I thought it would be a nice little treat for your birthday." He said, and I relaxed a bit. "Thank god." I said as I breathed a sigh of relief. Eventually we helped each other get out of the pond, and the cool breeze that blew made me shiver. "We can go to my apartment to get dry and change." He said as he ran a hand through his curly hair. I picked up my backpack and jacket before we walked over to his car. We laid down some trash bags on his seats so we didn't get them wet. Once he parked his car in the parking garage we took the trash bags off the seats and went up to his apartment. "Don't forget that I have to take Onyx to my place for my birthday party. I don't want him to think I forgot about him." I said as he shut and locked the door behind us. "I know. Do you wanna take a shower first or do you want me to go?" He said as I sat my jacket and backpack aside. "It doesn't matter." I replied. "I'll let you go first. I can wash and dry our clothes while you're in there." He said as he took his dress coat off. After he picked out some of his clothes I could borrow I got into the shower. I felt awkward when the idea of him washing my bra and underwear, but I tried not to think about that too much. When I finished taking a shower, I dried off and put the cozy clothes Johnny let me borrow. The shirt was a little baggy and so we're the jeans but they weren't as big on me as his other clothes. He walked into the room wearing a robe. Knowing he was naked underneath made me blush. "I hope your dad doesn't ask questions about why you're wearing different clothes." He said as he ran a hand through his hair. "I hope he doesn't either." I replied. We walked closer towards each other and have me a hug. I snuggled into his chest and left a soft kiss on his neck. He chuckled when I kissed his exposed collarbone and chest. "You know... if we didn't need to be somewhere in a little while you and I could have had some fun." He said in a voice that made my insides squirm. "Well... only a little fun. I... I don't think I'm ready to give myself to you yet." I said, and a curious look filled his big brown eyes. "Are... are you... are you a virgin? Because it's okay of you are." He said as he gently rubbed my sides. "Yeah, I am. I'm a virgin." I replied with a shy little laugh. "Aww. I think that's so sweet." He said with a soft look in his chocolate brown eyes. I wrapped my arms around him and snuggled into his chest once again. "I promise I'll be gentle with you whenever you're ready. I'm not going to pressure you to do anything you aren't comfortable with." He said as he gently tightened his strong arms around me. "I know that, Johnny. You're the sweetest man I've ever met." I said with a smile even though he couldn't see my face. After a few minutes of hugging he went to take a shower as I watched the clothes in the washer. When they were finished I put them in the dryer. 'I better let Onyx know where I am and what happened.' I thought inside of my head. If Johnny and I are late I don't want him to think I went home without him.
