Chapter 12 : Fall

Agad na nakarating ang balita sa buong grupo. To my surprise, they didn't take it that much of a big deal since he's Matt's cousin. They said he's perfect for me but the great Maze don't think the same.

"Ano na naman irereklamo mo?" Bored na tanong ni Elise nang bumusangot ang mukha ni Maze at saka umiling iling.

Mahilig man magreklamo si Maze pero lagi siyang may point.

"Come on, guys. No offense, Matt pero magkakaron na nga lang ng first boyfriend si Pia, matanda pa?" Maarteng sagot ni Maze.

Well.. uh.. age doesn't matter?

"He's on his 30's!" Dagdag pa niya. Ngumuso ako kay Maze.

"Matt's twenty-eight." Ani Divine. Matt is protruding his lips while listening.

"That's a different story, sis." Sagot ni Maze.

It's not like Zack likes me. Siguro ay sinalo lang niya ako noong nalaman niyang hindi ako sisiputin ni Alfred. Nobody knows how he knew about the date. It's still a mystery unsolved.

"But Matt's still older than me and we get along really well." Sabi pa ni Divine. Umiling iling naman si Maze.

"Zack is really busy. Hindi niya mabibigyan ng oras si Pia. Imagine all the works on his table and the responsibility of being in a relationship? He can't take it." Maze said with finality.

She's right. Zack is really busy for someone like me. Someone who likes to explore a lot. The woman he needs is the one who can help him with his work and can stay twenty four hours inside an office... like Selena.

Kinagat ko ng mahigpit ang labi ko. Why am I hurting whenever I think about her?

"You're doubting my cousin." Ani Matt.

It's not a question to Maze but a statement.

"No? Maybe.. I don't know. I just want what's best for Pia. This is her first time." Sagot ni Maze na nag-aalala.

Ngumiti ako at saka hinawakan ang balikat niya. "I'll be fine."

Napunta sa akin ang atensyon ng lahat.

"Besides, it's not like... Zack likes me." Dagdag ko pa.

Halatang ayaw magpatalo ni Maze kaya nginitian ko siya ng mas malapad para mapanatag siya. I saw how Matt's eyebrow raised to what I said. May sinabi siya kay Divine na dahilan kung bakit sinamaan siya ng tingin nito.

I went to work the next day. Pinatawag ako ni Papa sa opisina niya kaya pumunta ako agad doon. Only a few knew about me being the daughter of the engineer and I want to keep it that way. When the door opened, I saw my Papa looking at a blueprint.

"You wish to see me, Engineer?" Tanong ko.

I caught his attention so he put down the blueprint and chuckled.

"I told you to call me Papa when no one's around." Sagot niya.

Umiling naman ako. "We're in a workplace, Engineer. Professionalism is a must."

"Alright, if that's what you want." Papa laughed.

Lumapit ako sa kaniya at mas nakita ang malaking blueprint na tinitignan niya kanina.

"You'll be working at the field this week. I'll assign you to Batangas and here's the copy of the blueprint you will sell. Make sure to study it and figure out the benefits the buyer will get." Seryosong sabi ni Papa habang inaabot ang isang blueprint sa akin.
