"H-How are you talking to me right now?" I said as I pulled over.
"I'm home now, for good." She said happily.
"How? What happened to him?" I said, knowing she'd know exactly who I was referring to.
"I ran, I finally built the strength to leave Killian." She explained.
I don't know if she was expecting a round of applause, but from me she'd get nothing.
She'd chosen him so many times over me, a man over her own brother.
Abused or not,she left when I needed her most.
They all did
"Well Uh, congrats, happy for you," I said slowly."Can you come over, I'd love to see you."
I Silently cringed to myself before speaking.
"I don't really think that's a good idea? Me and magulang (Parents in Tagalog) aren't really getting along." I explained truthfully.
"Josh....please."She said softly causing me to sigh to myself.
"Fine..." I said before hanging up.
~
The moment I walked in I was met with a suffocating embrace.
I stood stiff, awkwardly until she was done.
"What's wrong?" She backed up, suddenly breaking her embrace.
I gave her a a bored look before responding, "nothing."
"So why aren't you hugging me back, not to sound narcissistic but I expected a much different response."
I shrugged, "expectations lead to disappointment."
"Joshua, w-what happened to you?" She said softly scanning my sleeve of tattoos on my right arm. I had a couple when she left but not as many.
"Oh I'm sorry, should I get on my hands and knees and thank god that my sisters home." I ranted.
"Nah better yet should I walk over to the very parents that told me to be thankful that I lost the person I was falling for." I pointed as they stood off to the side.
"You chose a man over me EVERY SINGLE TIME!" I ranted, getting loud.
"I was being abused!" She yelled back.
"Yet when I tried to help you, I was blown off. Told to mind my business, right!"
"There's so much shit I watched you go through and when I found out that you left, not only that but got married, it hurt me! To know that my best friend was half away across the country suffering. To know that the only person who accepted me for me.....left." I ranted
She stayed silent and looked at me with watery eyes.
"but that's been a common occurrence lately so thinking back I'm not surprised. I haven't changed freya, I've been ruined."
She wiped her falling tear before looking back at me.
"J-just give me a chance, a chance to make up for my blindness. I don't like seeing you like this, and a small part of me feels like I'm partially responsible. I abandoned you, I'm sorry."
I looked at her and then down at my feet.
"I'm glad your home, but we'll never be what we were, I'm sorry." I said before walking towards the door.
I paused and looked back at my "parents"
"Please don't contact me again, I'm getting tired of asking." I spoke and walked out.I decided to drive down to the beach to clear by mind.
Usually I'd try to avoid thinking but now I needed to more than ever.
Should I trust somebody again just for them to leave me?
No, every time you trust somebody, what happens?
"They abandon me." I said
So you'd risk it again, do you not remember him
"I do remember him that's what got me here."
I sat back ignoring the stares from the people who looked at me like I was completely insane.
I stood up and walked toward the board walk, eyeing all the families and couple who paraded around.
A tinge on jealousy ran through me, my job use to be to help people now I was the person that needed it most.
I stayed in the beach for about another hour before eventually heading out to get food.
"Yea uhh can I get a number 2 please." I told the cashier.
She happily typed it on the computer before continuing with my order.
"Drink, sauces?" She spoke.
"Water and Barbecue please."
"Thank you, will that be all?" She smiled.
I nodded promoting her to print out my receipt and hand it to me.
"Your order number is 9994."
I froze, I mean complete froze. My mind went blank, and my skin was covered with chills.
"Sir!" The Cashier yelled.
I snapped out of my daze to see the other customers and employees giving me strange looks.
"Sir you've been standing here for a minute and a half, are you ok?" She asked wearily.
"what was my number again." I asked, breath shaky.
"You're order number is 204." She repeated.
I mentally cursed at myself and nodded, "t-thank you..."
After about two more minutes my number was called, the chills returned but this time I didn't freeze. I quickly tore up my receipt and jogged to my car with the food.
At this point I wasn't even hungry anymore, I'd completely lost my appetite.
I seemed like no matter where I went or what I did, I couldn't escape it.
I couldn't escape him.
