Criminal in love

Chapter 35

               Regan dabbed her eyes one more time before alighting the car.

She had a feeling she would loose Dimitri today. It was a strong feeling.

Ken and McCarthy alighted and walked with her into the court room. They took a seat in the front roll. They were very few people present including Dimitri. He nodded at McCarthy and Ken, but totally ignored her. Well, game on. Two could play the game.

She tried to ignore him but it was difficult.  He didn't look sad or grievous. He looked oddly content.

Minutes later, the judge came in and everybody stood. When he sat, everyone sat too. He turned to stare at Dimitri and he stared back coldly.

"Well....its a ----" A sound of gunshot was heard from outside, followed by noise. Everyone turned to see a lady run inside. She stopped in front of the Judge.

Regan gasped. "Rose!!"

The lady turned to her and gave her the coldest stare she could muster. Regan flinched from her gaze.

"Let him go. He's innocent. I'm the guilty one. I kidnapped Regan and i would have killed her if not for him, so let him go. I'm the guilty one. I bombed the building a week ago."

Everyone gasped and she chuckled. "What? Surprised?" she turned to Dimitri and smiled. "I know you love the bitch" she turned to Regan and hissed before turning to the judge. "Let him go." she withdrew a knife, but before they could hold her, she drove it into her heart and fell to the floor with a thud.

Dimitri screamed and ran to her but they held him back. The Judge adjusted his glass. "I sentence you to three months imprisonment with an option of bail of One hundred and fifty thousand naira."  he said and walked out.

Paramedics rushed into the room and picked up a bleeding Rose, while Dimitri watched. Soon, officers came and handcuffed Dimitri before dragging him away.

Regan watched everything unfold with blurry eyes. The only emotion running through her was jealousy.

The heartbroken look on Dim's face when they took Rose away was a dead give-away. He loved Rose.

              Dimitri shook the bars and growled. "I said no. I've been a bad guy McCarthy, i deserve a jail term. I don't need you to bail me out"

McCarthy sighed impatiently. "I'm not bailing you out. Your father's money is yours already. I'll just withdraw some -----" "McCarthy ---" Dim growled.  "Okay okay" the lawyer surrendered. "I love Regan" Dimitri blurted randomly.

McCarthy looked confused. "What?"

"Regan. I love her, but we cant be together" "Okay?" McCarthy felt genuinely out of place. Dimitri rolled his eyes and sighed. "Forget it. Don't come visiting me until after three months. Come the day I'll be set free, i want you to know something."

McCarthy nodded. "Take care"
