Three months later.
Regan felt betrayed and tired and angry. He had the chance to make everything right but he didn't want to. He was released from prison yesterday, but he was nowhere to be found. They went to see him, but was told he already left.
Where could he be? He had no money. McCarthy said he didn't accept his father's wealth.
She blinked back tears when she pictured him going back to his old ways. Things ought to be different, but he ran away from her.
The doorbell rang and she walked to it. She hoped it was Femi so she could get what she wanted to say off her chest quickly.
Luckily, he was the one.
"Have your seat, please." she said politely. They were always civil towards each other.
He sat. "What can i offer you?" she asked, hoping he would say no.
He did. " No thank you Regan."
She sat beside him. "Thank you for making time out to come. I know you're a very busy man"
He smiled. "I actually wanted to talk to you too, so i just decided to kill two birds with a stone"
They both laughed and said "You first" at the same time. "Come on" he urged. "Ladies first"
Regan breathed in and out. Oh well, the earlier the better.
She reached for his both hands and held it in hers. "Femi, i know we've been going steadily for some years now and we're already engaged but i'm in love with someone else and i don't think it would be fair to you if we go on" she paused when he smiled broadly. "I'm really sorry to Regan but like you said it wont be fair, i'm in love with someone else too." he confessed and chuckled.
Well, that was easy.
Regan withdrew a tiny box and gave it to him. "We're still friends right?"
"Sure" he replied, taking his engagement ring from her.
"Regan, i really am sorry. He's lucky to have you." he whispered, looking genuinely sorry. Oddly, it made her feel better. "Its fine, Femi"
"Can we go somewhere tomorrow? As friends?" "Sure we can. I'm free"
He stood. "I'll call you two hours before i come pick you up. Thanks once again."
