warnings: angst, blood mentions, fighting, maybe...some revelations? *wink wink*

"You suck, Peter," Ned stated flatly, making his friend frown.

"What did I do?" He asked, though he pretty much knew the answer already.

"Y/N is avoiding us and you know it's your fault," Ned glared at him, "I don't get why you couldn't just tell her you liked her. It's not like you'd be lying."

"It's complicated, Ned," he muttered, poking a fork at his food that he was no longer hungry for. The seat next to him was empty and both he and Ned hated it.

They didn't know where you had been for the last two lunches, but they knew it was because of Peter. MJ had sat at the other end of the lunch table as usual but he could feel her glare at him once in a while, and that told him enough.

"You should talk to her," Ned pushed.

"You think I haven't tried? Every time I see her she avoids me," he sighed, feeling a bit of pain in his chest at the thought. He hadn't seen you at lunch, you didn't walk home from school with him like you always did, and you even ignored him in the few classes you shared.

He knew you, and he knew you probably just wanted some space and would come around, but it still hurt that you dodged him at every chance. Even if he deserved it.

"Maybe you should go visit her as Spider-Man."

Peter nearly choked on his food, "Are you crazy? No way."

"Yeah, I guess Spider-Man is too busy with that new hero anyway," Ned trailed off, watching Peter's cheeks turn a bit red.

"It's not like that, and you know it," he shot his friend a glare, "And stop talking so loudly-"

"Hey guys," the sound of your voice caused both of them to stop and stare at you, a bit surprised as you sat down at the table.

"H-Hey, hi," Peter stuttered a bit, not bothering to hide his shocked expression. Your lips turned up a little at that but you still avoided his gaze, and it didn't get missed that you sat across from them now instead of at your usual spot next to Peter.

"Sorry I haven't been here," you said simply, pulling out a textbook, "I had that stupid test so I've been studying in the library."

"Oh, the one for history?" Ned piped up, breaking some of the awkward tension. Peter hadn't looked away from you since you sat down and it was pretty obvious.

"Yeah, that one," you opened your book, sighing, "You have that class too in another period, I forgot. We should've studied together for it."

"We can study now," he suggested, kicking Peter in the shin in hoped that he'd stop staring like an idiot. Peter shot him a small glare while Ned just ignored it. "I have flashcards."

"Good idea!" You perked up, still avoiding looking at Peter at all, "We still have until tomorrow."

While you and Ned both began discussing the subjects for the test, Peter got out his chemistry book and attempted to focus on that, since he didn't have the same history class as his friends.

He knew you were going to act like it never happened - like you never told him you liked him and like he never stood there like a moron and didn't say anything. It was easier to pretend, but he knew you deserved an explanation or some sort of response. But he also knew he didn't want to hurt you more by actually rejecting you, and he couldn't let himself tell you he liked you too, even if it was the truth.
