George paced up and down in his chamber, trying to figure out just what he could do.

Clearly, his beloved stepmother had seen through his fake letter and he was ready to punch himself for his stupidity. Of course. She worked with Washington for years and he wouldn't send her a letter this openly, even after her having called for the troops in the States to come back home.

Another factor was the husband and child.

George knew from a good, reliable source of the child the queen had given birth to in the States, but whether the father of said child was her husband or not, he wasn't sure. Maybe he shouldn't have chosen to say 'husband' in the letter, maybe just should have mentioned the child.

And that was the exact moment when an idea came into his mind and he couldn't help but smile at the simple thought.

If his stepmother believed she could take everything from him without any repercussions, she was wrong.

So.

Terribly.

Wrong.

John smiled to himself, glad he was finally able to leave the smell of the sea behind and make his way further into land. He was not only glad to leave behind the smell of the sea, but he was also glad to finally have some steady ground beneath his feet. The constant waving of the ship among the waves was enough to leave him sleepless some nights as well as seasick some others.

He was glad to have accepted the offer Miles had made in secret.

Once Y/N was queen, John would have the opportunity to sail across the ocean and come to London to reunite with the love of his life and soon return with her when everything was in place - as it was meant to be.

As John walked down the docks to hail a carriage, he crossed paths with a man who seemed oddly familiar to him, though he couldn't place his fingertip on what made him so familiar.

And as quick as he came, he passed him and was on his way to a different ship.

John glanced over his shoulder as the man went aboard a ship, trying to catch a glimpse of his profile, but even then he was still unable to figure out who it was.

Then again, his focus should be lying somewhere entirely else.

It should be lying on his queen and there it was lying for sure, now that he faced forward again and stepped into the carriage he was told to look out the day of his arrival.

Y/N found herself smiling at Charlotte, the seventeen year old princess doing good in her role of future queen.

The current queen allowed her to lead a meeting with relevant ministers, a handful of those who she knew she could trust with the safety and prosperity of this country. Petty surely didn't belong to those anymore.

As Y/N sat at the head of the table, Charlotte at the other end had the full attention of the other ministers. It did take them a little getting used to, but now Y/N was sure she had them exactly where she wanted them - obeying to women with power and not daring to even breathe into the wrong direction.

The meeting was about something Y/N had long stopped listening to, after Charlotte had begun her first opening words. Of course it was still required of the Queen to approve of everything at the end, but so long as she wasn't addressed properly and or involved in any way, she saw no need in listening.

The doors to the council room opened and a guard stepped inside, a letter in hands. The guard quietly made his way to Miles, as no letter came to the queen without having passed him first.

Charlotte continued to lead the discussion, making sure the attention of the men in this room was on her still.

In the mean while, Y/N's eyes drifted off to her most trusted soldier and advisor, who was conversing quietly with the guard, before he took the letter from the other and made his way to the queen, handing her the letter.

Miles leaned down a little so he could whisper the words, "A curly haired American has asked to give you this. He waits in the council room down the hall."

Y/N felt herself freeze, eyes widening as they shot up to look at Miles. The look on his face shocked her even more, as it was a look that told her that he knew of something she didn't.

Then she turned her attention to the letter, carefully opening the envelope and pulling out the paper inside.

There wasn't much written on it, but the words sparked a memory.

I really admire your strength, Y/N. I know that life with them has been anything but easy, but you are really, an amazing woman. You never cease to surprise me.

Y/N couldn't help but think back to the day when she had first heard those words. John and her had been talking about him leaving for South Carolina and she believed that was one of the first days this man had given her compliments that set off a spark inside her heart.

The queen quickly blinked a couple of times, as if to blink away the tears that were threatening to come, before she rose from her seat without a warning, the ministers and Charlotte quick to follow.

"Charlotte, dear, continue the meeting without me. I have other urgent matters to attend to. I shall have a protocol and result of this meeting on my desk this evening."

The ministers bowed as their queen strode past them toward the door, Miles following right after her.

Before the doors closed behind Y/N, she could hear Charlotte move back to the subject at hand, just as she had hoped.

Miles led Y/N down the hall towards the council room where only one person could find himself, a room in a place he shouldn't have come to in the first place.

As they came to a stop in front of the door, Y/N took a deep breath and muttered "I wish to not be disturbed. You may stand watch, but no one is allowed to walk into this room."

Miles nodded and couldn't help but let the small smile slip that he had kept in the moment he heard of his arrival.

The queen took another deep breath, before she opened the door and entered the room.

Coming face to face with the love of her life.
