He pushed the door open and wrapped one of his hands around my waist.
"Hop" he whispered.
"What?" I whispered back but he couldn't answer me because the teacher had already made our presence known to the whole class."How nice of you two to finally bless us with your divine presence," the teacher said sarcastically.
"Sorry to be late but I went to the nurses' office together because I had a headache and Amanda here sprained her ankle real bad" Terrance responded.
Oh ok I get it, we were gonna lie, that's such a bad idea. I don't want to be known as untrustworthy because I tell lies, not to my teachers at least.
I placed my hand over his shoulders as he walked over to the benches and I hopped pretending that my ankle was actually sprained, I didn't want to do it but there was no backing out now.
"And where are your late slips from the nurse then?" Our gym teacher asked back.
"Well, the nurse wasn't their sir the janitor Mr James said she had an emergency to attend to" Terrance replied, his face gave away nothing.
"Well then Mr Rowe, I guess it won't be a problem then if I called the school nurse to see if your story is true then." the gym teacher challenged.
"Go straight ahead sir, by all means" he replied accepting his challenge as he gestured towards him. He looked so composed as if he wasn't doing something wrong.
"What are you doing?" I whispered, very scared as I tugged his shirt lightly, this boy was definitely out of his mind.
"Stay calm" he advised me, which didn't help at all"
How can he act so calm right now, how can he expect me to remain calm? How can he seriously be so composed right now, he just told a lie to a teacher and the teacher was about to find out that it was a lie.
I slightly began to panic but I hoped that it was only slightly noticeable of not at all.His face looked expressionless as if there was nothing to worry about, not one care in the world.
The teacher took out his phone and walked across the gym where we wouldn't be able to hear his conversation with the school nurse I presume.
"We are so dead," I stated as he sat down beside me.
"At least the worry on your face can be seen as you feeling pain from your sprained ankle" he stated as he dipped in his pocket and took out a pack of gum.
"Gum?" He asked as he offered me one, is he really serious right now, I wanted to smack it out of his hand so bad but I resisted and only glared at him slightly.
I narrowed my eyes then rolled them at him, he only shrugged and placed the gum back into his pocket.
"What if he gets to her and she tells him the truth?" I asked, still afraid of what might happen.
"You are going to get us both in trouble," I said once more.
"I've never been in detention before I'm not a delinquent, their gonna eat me alive," I continued to mumble my fears.
"I'm gonna get detention for lying."
I looked over at our gym teacher and he seemed to be having some trouble with connecting to the nurse."I don't lie I play with the truth," he stated,
"What?" I asked wanting him to repeat himself, I couldn't have possibly heard him correctly.
"I observe things that's what I do best, something you obviously don't do," he said as he looked straight at the teacher across the room.
"I'm sorry to burst your bubble but that has nothing to do with our situation right now," I replied slightly offended.
"Of course it does."
"Ho really? How?" But he didn't reply, he did, however, give me a weird look most likely for saying 'Ho' instead of 'Oh'
"Go ahead then, how does it?" I asked again this time his head turned towards me he, exhaled loudly "you can't keep quiet, can you?" He said
I was about to say something rude but he continued
"The dark hair boy over there in the green t-shirt" I looked at the boy he was talking about then back to him
"He stole the nurses' phone because she gave him a detention for extreme P.D.A next to the water fountain this morning"
"What about the nurse emergency thing, what if he calls the front office?"
I askedHe chuckled a little "I went to the office this morning claiming that I was lost, the nurse, the guidance teacher and the fount desk secretary were there talking about how they were gonna leave school after the first period and get their wildness on" he said chuckling once more.
It was strange seeing that on his face, a substitute smile if I may say so myself."But what about the janitor? you said something about a janitor" I reminded him, I still didn't believe that we would get away.
"Oh Mr.James is their cover-up, he sits in the janitors closet all day, watching an old tv he has in there and eating free lunch"
He chuckled once more "I've been here for about two weeks and it seems like I know more about this school than you"
I didn't reply because it was true I wasn't that social, I still didn't know most of the teachers' names or what subjects they teach much less to know things about the cleaning staff.
The coach walked back over to where everyone was but he didn't say anything to us, he just continued his class while we sat there and watched.
I guess we're off the hook and its all thanks to Terrance, I guess hes a professional lier and to be honest I felt like I was only seconds away from confessing everything.
