He told me to wait for him while he got the car but I couldn't.As soon as he turned his back to go get the car in the parking lot I was gone.
I was gone with the wind, something I've done so many times before.
Running was what our family did best, a month after Anellea's goodbye ceremony we left the country. I didn't stay in touch with the friends I had there and I doubt my parents stayed in touch either except for talking to the investigators back there which didn't really count I guess.
By the time I reached home Terrance's car was already there parked in front of his house and surprisingly my mother was still home.
I couldn't help but think about what happened with my mom and dad earlier when I had left them alone together.
I walked past Terrance's house only glimpsing on his car once. I hadn't noticed how annoying my shoes sounded with each step I took until now.
When I entered the house my mom was sitting on the couch in front of the television with a bowl in her hands filled with what appeared to be snacks."Your back." She said sitting up straighter than she was when she noticed my presence.
"That young man from next door came looking for you." She said calmly.
Her voice sounded normal but I could tell by her facial expression that every response I made really counted in this moment.
Everything or anything I say will be held against me for future purpose, response and actions.
"Alissa had asked him to drop me home since she wouldn't be able to." I lied, imagine that, I was coming from church and was already lying. I've told two lies since I've stepped out of gods holy place.
But what was I supposed to say? , 'ho him, yea his name is Terrance. He was probably here because I basically ran from him and was most likely checking to see if we still had a thing, and by thing I mean our occasional kisses and cute gestures, you know twenty-first-century couple stuff.'
Yea I don't think so.
"So where did you go ?." She asked the overprotective parent mode was starting up. I could hear it in her voice.
"I left the church before it even finished," I respond as I sat beside her. I had finally gotten her attention, she was now looking over at me instead of the television. Her face looked as if she was thinking of all the things that could have happened to me and all that was wrong with what I did.
"I couldn't have stayed there, the words the pastor was saying reminded me so much of Anellea, of us saying goodbye," I told her, it was the only part of this conversation that was the truth.
"You've always been the sensitive one in this family, you never could easily let go Amanda." She told me, her once hard eyes and facial expression becoming soft.
My mother was way off different than Anellea and I, we both had light chocolate skin, dark brown eyes and black curly hair plus we were tall. Our features were both a combination of our mom and dad's, and that truly made us unique.
"Maybe your holding on a little too much." She said causing something in me to snap a bit.
Was she telling me to just forget? , is that what she did just forgot that she had two daughters instead of one? How dear she.
I got up from beside her and walked straight to my room without a word, stating my mind would probably get me in trouble, I was still a bit angry on the inside and nothing good can ever come out of speaking in anger. Anellea thought me that.
A week went by followed by another then another. I'd stayed away from Terrance as much as I could. I mean there wasn't much hope when the guy you are trying to get space from lives next door to you, goes to the same school as you, shares some of the same classes as you, has basically the same friends as you do, and has after school cleaning detention with you but I've been managing.
First of all, I travel with Alissa in the mornings and sometimes even Jazz but my mom doesn't approve of her so I have to walk like I'm going to the bus stop when I ride with her. Two, I go to class semi-early and sit in benches/seats that already have students sitting around it hence I don't have to worry about sitting beside him. Three, I choose things to do in work detention that was away from Terrance or sometimes I did it from lunchtime so that I could go home as the bell rang.
Four, when I saw him heading my way I went in another direction.I haven't seen Cole or that crazy Barbie who thought she was bad, Cristina, at all. I guess they had gotten in more trouble than us.
I mean I was best friends with the principals' daughter and he knew that I would never pick a fight or willingly do anything wrong, plus I was nice so he expected my friends to be as well.
I'd basically gotten back on track with my school work and hang with my friends more often as I could.
It was a Thursday and I was using a free session after lunch in the library, reviewing my notes when someone sat in front of me.
I looked up from my book which I was reading, underling and highlighting in at the person.
I smiled at him causing him to look at me with raised brows.
"Hi, James." The confusion and how uncomfortable I was, was laced in my voice.
"I'm here to warn you." He said causing me to look at him even weirder.
James was Jazz's boyfriend, the one who was a distant family friend of Terrance, he was nice I guess, a total badass but weird at times. We've never held a conversation before we've always just nodded at each other and that's it. A mutual agreement I guess. I'm
"To Warn me ?." I repeated his word but a little slower as If I was testing how it felt to say those words.
"Look, Terrance is not someone to get close to." He rolled his eyes and said, he was probably starting to get tired of me already. Maybe even irritated that I wasn't listening.
"She said you were at his house when she went there, and you were wearing his clothes. Hair all messed up and everything." He continued.
Terrance's sister!! , my mind screamed. She had told on us, she invaded our privacy. How old was she six? , this is unbelievable and she made it sound so inappropriate.
"Don't worry she only told me." He said to assure me, most likely because of my widened eyes.
"He's not who you think he is." He said.
The bell rang for the end of that session causing me to quickly start to pack up my things.I refused to believe whatever James was telling me. I've been around Terrance and I've seen his ways, he had mixed emotions but lately, he seemed so much sweeter and caring than normal. I knew Terrance was bad for me when I just met him but all those feelings are changing.
I didn't like the way he was talking about Terrance even if we were getting space from each other or whatever was happening.
"he'll break you." He said when I started to walk away with my stuff causing me to pause. The tone he said it in made it sound like a fact.
"That's great actually," I said as I turned slightly so that he could see my face.
"Cause I'm already broken. Bye James ." I said before walking to my last class of the day.
Terrance sister Tallya was obviously going to be a problem. Already I found her intrusive.
