throw me a bone

discerning disposition and a desire to
            eat you alive

cover you in mercury and honeysuckle
and lap it up

            your collarbones will ache
as i sink my crooked teeth into them

i am no better than a mutt
biting the hand that feeds it
simply because that hand smells divine

to you it is a good pain
maybe you're a masochist or maybe
you're just so gullible that you believe me
when i say my 46th sorry

teach me a lesson
leave me outside
on a cold chain leash
even as i whine

i may be a dog but i know it is wrong
            to yearn for human flesh;
though it is in my nature as a descendant of wolves

i'll yelp and beg through the night
paws aching

don't let me back inside until morning.
