"When did you start cooking, Terri?" Carter's adoptive grandmother questions politely.
"Oh, it's just hamburger casserole." Terri grins. "Look out for bones."
Carter fakes a laugh at her joke. Will had invited his parents over to celebrate Terri's pregnancy. Though they didn't know that she was pregnant yet. Will was getting impatient, too excited to keep the secret any longer. He laughs happily and Carter could've sworn her heart melted. It meant a lot to see someone she loved so dearly, happy.
"I'm sorry. I, um, I can't hold it in any longer." Will stands up with his glass. He smiles soflty. "Um Mom, Dad. Terri's pregnant."
Terri didn't look too excited. Carter narrows her eyes at the woman. "What?"
Will continues. "It's a boy."
Mrs. Schuester laughs giddily, standing up to . "Oh! Our first grandbaby!"
"Oh, that's fantastic." Mr. Schuester says, gripping Terri's shoulders in his hands. He smiles widely and Carter can't help but feel annoyed.
"Carter aren't you excited? You're going to have a baby cousin!"
"So excited." Carter nods with a bitter smile. She obviously wasn't. She was going to be replaced with a baby.
"Thank you, yeah. Sweetheart. Honey?" Terri calls out to Will as Carter sits back down.
"Yeah?"
"I thought we weren't going to tell anybody yet."
Carter's grandfather hugs Terri's side. "Oh your secret is safe with me. I spent six months In the Hanoi Hilton, never said a word. Am I right, doodle?"
"That's right, honey." Her grandma responds.
"Oh. Yeah, we're going to turn the craft room into the nursery." Terri adds.
Mrs. Schuester gasps. "Show us!" She grabs Carter by her upper arm, pulling her out of her seat.
Terri begins to lead the two girls away. Carter gives Will a pleading look as if to say don't make me go. Ultimately, she's forced to watch Terri and her grandma talk about what colors would look good in the room and what other necessities they would add in.
Carter soon has time to sneak away into her bedroom and silently fall asleep hoping she wouldn't have to deal with the happy couple in the morning.
"Five, six, seven, eight. Step and step. Step and step. And turn it around. Down and up. And hit, hit down hit." Will orders.
"Can we stop, please?" Rachel calls. Carter halts her dancing to listen to the complaints Rachel had for the club today. It was a new thing everyday. Last week, it was Carter's curly hair getting in the way of Rachel's song.
"You don't have to ask me every time for permission to go to the bathroom, Rachel. You can just go."
"It's not my bladder. It's the choreography."
Will places his hands on his hips. "Okay, what's wrong with the choreography?"
"It sucks." Rachel declares.
Carter gasps, holding a hand to her chest. "No!"
The New Directions held their breath as they watched Rachel cross the line. It was entertaining to Carter, until it wasn't. Well, until Quinn Fabray tried so hard to strike a nerve with her Uncle. God, did it annoy her.
"We can't compete with vocal adrenaline with these steps. You're a great vocal coach, Mr. Shue, But you're not a a trained choreographer. That's what we need to be the best. We need Dakota Stanley." Rachel complains.
Will reminds her of one crucial fact. "Just because he understudied doesn't mean he ever performed."
This is where Carter got angry. "Did you ever perform, Mr. Schuester? After high school. Did you even try?"
"You just crossed the goddamn line, Princess." Carter growls, taking a step forward. Quinn smiles sweetly, sending her a wink.
Quinn Fabray had just landed herself a spot on Carter's list. And God was she going to regret it.
▬ i want to say the reason carter acts like she does with terri is because she hardly gets any attention, but its not ugh. i've got some ideas why though.
▬ for now, carter will be known as an attention whore!
