Confusion

Why are we drifting?
The tides ever shifting.
You're so out of reach,
And yet you're sat here by my feet.
Why's my heart been aching?
The happiness I've been faking
Is causing me to lose my mind.
But still I try to understand,
Why you no longer hold my hand.
Why you say you can't come round,
But then I see you're out in town.
Please help me understand,
Or have I simply gone mad?
I can't lose you from my life,
I need you to stay by my side.
