Becoming Your God (II)

That night, Shu clan members didn’t get much sleep, dozens of the more able-bodied members took turns keeping watch in case of beast attacks.

Shang Ke’s soul also remained in the camp, standing guard with them. He wandered to the tent of the Chief’s eldest daughter, Tima. The twelve to thirteen-year-old girl was lying in bed with her eyes closed, praying in a whisper to god for the protection of her people.

Along with her prayers, Shang Ke could feel a stream of power slowly pouring into him, meager but pure, as if infused with honey.

Just then, a few urgent whistles suddenly came from the edge of the camp, causing the lightly sleeping group of people to instantly awaken from their dreams. The able-bodied adults took up arms and gather noisily while the old, women, and children stayed in their tents, anxiously waiting for the danger to pass or for death to arrive.

While they couldn’t take part in the battle, they prayed in their hearts for the silenced members of the clan. The number of people gradually increased, filling Shang Ke’s body with more and more power, finally filling up his previously dried spiritual reserve with a little steam.

“Aooooo——” the beasts’ roar broke the silence of the night, aggressively proclaiming them and their arrival.

The Shu Clan members grasped their weapons, wielding them with vigor. However, when they saw blood wolves emerge from the bushes with a ferocious gleam in their eyes, the blood cleanly drained from their faces in an instant.

Two dozen blood wolves stared with scarlet eyes at their prey in a frenzy.

The Shu Clan currently had no more than 200 people, nearly half of whom were elderly or female. With more than two dozen blood wolves to kill, while this was unlikely to wipe out the clan, the clan would still pay a high price.

The Shu clansmen all looked grim, holding their weapons in their hand, preparing for the start of a fierce battle. A wolf’s howl sounded, the blood wolves arched their backs, preparing for action.

Just as the two sides were about to engage, a ray of both light and shadow suddenly fell from the sky, and a fuzzy human-shaped image solidified in the empty space between the blood wolves and humans.

His figure was muscular, he wore a sinister mask on his face and held a hammer in his hands. His transparent hair drifted slowly in the air while what looked like a will-o-wisps burned at his waist, throwing a fluorescent light on everything in the surroundings.

The originally ferocious blood wolves issued an uneasy, low growl at his appearance, pacing back and forth jitterily.

The Shu Clan were surprised; the shadowy image in front of them was obviously the embodiment of a god. However, their diety had perished over a hundred years ago, and recreating the image of a god was very difficult— they had tried and failed many times. To this day, they did not have their own god and were officially abandoned by all Gods, which is the reason they weren’t accepted into other communities.

The form of the god in front of them is also completely different from the god they originally believed in. This “simple” and bold style, could probably be traced back to at least a thousand years ago…

Shang Ke now took shape, gambling all the spiritual power he had accumulated these couple days, putting on the false bravado of a God to scare away the wolves and also presenting himself as a gorgeously bright image in front of the Shu people. It can be said he was breaking the cauldron to sink the boat — there was no turning back now. He can only succeed, failure is not an option!
