I own nothing
Chapter 3: Volcanos and Tundras
From where Sinbad sat, he could see the bright glow of (Y/N)'s home on the horizon. He suddenly began to panic.
"Wait, is that volcano active!?"
"Of course it is," (Y/N) answered nonchalantly. "What did you expect?"
"I can't go in there! Unlike you, I'm not fireproof!" She rolled her eyes.
"Relax Sin, our shaman will whip up a potion that'll allow your body to withstand the heat, you'll be fine. Besides, this will be quick. We'll be out before your body realizes it's near lava," he pouted and shook his head fiercely.
"No way, I'm not risking getting cooked alive,"
"Oh don't be such a baby! I thought you were a brave Dungeon Capturer now!"
"I am! I also know that humans aren't meant to be volcanoes unless they're being sacrificed," (Y/N) opened her mouth to continue arguing when her nose suddenly twitched. She being intently sniffing the air. Sinbad grabbed hold of his sword.
"What is it?"
"A battle. Big one not too far from here," The boy's eyes widened.
"Can you tell who's fighting?" (Y/N) flew up and perched on the mast, staring intensely at the southeast part of the volcanic island.
"My tribe definitely. And I recognize the invaders. It's the same tribe that attacked the nursery and got me my warrior name. Sin! We have to help them!" He smirked and began sailing in the direction she was pointing towards.
"What else would we do?"
The battle quickly came into view and Sinbad was amazed by the spectacle: dragons of all shapes, sizes, and colors were battle in the skies, illuminated by the volcano. Some had hammer like tails to crush their foes, some had shootings spikes, and others still stuck with their claws. (Y/N) dug her claws into the mast.
"Get on Sin! I know exactly how to end this fight!" She turned into her dragon form and waited for her friend to climb on before taking to the air, smacking an unlucky opponent into the sea as she did so. (Y/N) weaved gracefully through the combat, knocking away most of her enemies with Sinbad slashing away at them with his sword. Towards the center of the conflict (Y/N) hovered face to face with an older male dragon who was missing an eye. She smirked viciously.
"Ugly and stupid as ever, aye Hawkclaw?" The male's eye widened with rage as his fangs gritted.
"YOU!" He roared, diving at them. (Y/N) barreled out of the way and continued to taunt him.
"You think you'd learn not to fight the Tribe of Fallen Stars on our own territory after the last attempt, or are you just that eager for me to rip out your other eye? Boy I feel bad for Olivestar, she has a poor excuse for a Warrior," Hawkclaw glared and zeroed in on Sinbad.
"Blightstar's no better! Her own daughter let's a human ride on her back!" Sinbad smirked.
"I'm more than just a human!" He raised his sword to the sky. "Baal!" Lightning rained down, striking the dragon where he flew. He fell motionless into the ocean. Sinbad's eyes widened.
"Did I kill him!?" (Y/N) tilted her head.
"Maybe. Don't let it trouble you. He was a vicious idiot. You did his tribe a favor,"
"That's cold (Y/N),"
"He tried murdering hatchlings. He got what he deserved," Around them, the enemy dragons, seeing their opponent striking down their captain with mystical lightning, fled with their tails between their legs as the Fallen Stars dragons began roaring victoriously. (Y/N) and Sinbad landed back on their boat as a honey colored female dragon also transformed into her human form and looked at (Y/N) in astonishment.
"(W/N)?" She smiled.
"Amberpaw! It's great to see you!" The two hugged.
"Actually, it's Ambertail now. I can't believe it! We all thought you were dead! Everyone! (W/N)'s back!" The other dragons began crowding the tiny boat, nearly knock poor Sinbad into the water, each one greeting the young Warrior. Ambertail looked over at Sinbad.
"Why do you have a human with you?" (Y/N) slid back to her friend's side.
"This is Sinbad, he's a good friend of mine. He's the one I deemed worthy of the Dungeon's power," an elderly male snickered.
"Oh, is this the human boy you kept crying about after you got lost in that storm?"
"Shut up bear dung!" All the others began laughing while Sinbad slyly smiled.
"Aw, you missed me that much?" She knocked him on the head.
"Don't let it go to your head,"
(Timeskip)
Sinbad never expect to find a great dinning hall full of meat, ale, and a throne at the center of a volcano, nor did he expect to drink a nearly inedible black sludge to get there. It was loud and rowdy as the dragons were all in their human forms celebrating the defeat of their enemies.   (Y/N)'s head was darting back and forth in order to greet old friends and he could feel cautious stares from behind him. Suddenly, a familiar woman stood in front of the throne. Everyone was silent at once before they began stamping their feet in unison. (Y/N) and Sinbad both joined in. After a minute, Blightstar raised her hand to the sky and silence fell once more.
"Tonight, we celebrate a great victory! We have once more driven back the snake heart Tribe of Sharp Rocks!"
There was cheering and chanting before Blightstar once more called silence.
"We also celebrate the return of my daughter (W/N), who valiantly joined the fight and an honorary member of our tribe Wavepaw who both struck down the cowardly Hawkclaw!"
The dragons began chanting their names as Sinbad only then remembered Blightstar had given him a name.
"(W/N)! Wavepaw! (W/N)! Wavepaw!"
The warriors gorged themselves as (Y/N) and her companion made their way up to her mother. Blightstar greeted her with a hug.
"I'm happy you're safe. You've been gone for nearly a year,"
"I figured. It only felt like a few days in the dungeon," Blightstar looked over at Sinbad.
"And I see you decided to go to Tison and pick up your friend. Still planning to travel the world then?"
"Actually, Sinbad and I reunited in the dungeon. He's the one I gave the power too,"
Sinbad and (Y/N) then recounted the events which took place, including showing the dungeon treasure to the leader. She nodded knowingly.
"I see. So Yunan sent you both into that dungeon. Something tells me he was aware of your promise and decided to move things along. In any event, I don't doubt it was fate which brought you both together once more. It is destiny,"
"Blightstar," Sinbad stated. "I want your daughter to travel with me and change the world!" The smirked.
"That's a tall order boy. Why should I hand over my only daughter to you?" Sinbad smiled at his friend.
"She's brave, strong, and loyal. I couldn't think of a better partner to have at my side,"
"And you (Y/N)?"
"Sinbad is destined to be a great king, and I want to be there when it happens," the older female sighed.
"Well, I suppose I can't argue with stupid youth. Very well, you have my blessing. However, no king shall have an apprentice name on my watch,"
"Huh?" Sinbad asked before the mother shifted into her giant reptilian form. He forgot how massive it was. The dragons in the hall were silent again as Blightstar dipped her claw into a small bowl of blue paint near the throne and drew wave like lines on his forehead.
"Henceforth, your old identity is dead and from this day on, you are Wavereader. We honor your strength and cunning and welcome you as an adult and a full member of the tribe!"
"Wavereader! Wavereader! Wavereader!" The warriors chanted, (Y/N) the loudest of all. Sinbad smiled and bowed his head.
"Thank you," Blightstar nodded.
"You've more than earned it,"
(Timeskip)
The time with tribe was brief, filled with the story of their adventure in the dungeon and their quest and (Y/N) nearly killing Sinbad for flirting with the female warriors. By the next morning, the duo of friends had already set out once more on their mission. Nothing would hinder them.
"Achoo!"
Well, maybe except a cold.
The little boat the two adventures sailed was surrounded by packs of ice and Sinbad looked frozen to his core, falling over frozen.
"You ok Sin?" (Y/N) asked, standing over him with concern. Poor boy looked ready to give in.
"It's so cold! How are you not frozen!? You're part lizard! You should be worse off than me!"   (Y/N) rolled her eyes.
"Just because we're both reptiles doesn't mean I'm like lizards. I also breath fire incase you forgot. The organ that produces the flame acts as a heater whenever the area around me becomes too cold," Sinbad let out anime tears as he curled up trying to get warm. His companion sighed.
"Oh come here you big baby," she pulled him into her arms and wrapped her wings around him. He immediately cuddled into her with a content look.
"So warm!"
"Yeah yeah, don't get used to it, and don't try anything," Suddenly, there loud crashes as pillars of water rose up from the sea. The friends separated trying to see what was going on.
"What was that!?" (Y/N) screamed as she kept the boat balanced.
"There!" The purple haired boy pointed at a small boat with two blue haired people being attacked by a massive creature that dwarfed (Y/N)'s dragon form. They saw the boat being knocked over and the two stranger falling into the sea.
"We have to help them!" (Y/N) said as she dove into the water, morphing into her beast form. Sinbad steered the boat straight for the monster. As the beast turned to attack the unconscious girl, (Y/N) came out from below it and threw it into the skies.
"Sin! All yours!" Sinbad raised his sword to the heavens as they darkened.
"Baal!" He called. "Lend me your powers!" Lightning built up in his sword as he slashed downward. "Lightning strike!"
The lightning decimated the creature, leaving its remains sinking and smoking. (Y/N) swam back to the boat and climbed aboard (human of course).
"Nice work sailor boy," He smirked at her.
"You had a pretty good throw too,"
"Why'd you take your shirt off? I thought you were cold!" Immediately he began shivering and grabbed hold of the dragon girl.
"It's f-freezing!" (Y/N) gritted her teeth while blushing.
"Put your shirt back on!" She suddenly caught sight of the male in the water, looking at them in bewilderment. "Hey! You two ok?"
"U-um, I think?" He answered back timidly. "She needs help!"
"Hold on!" Sinbad called back as he steered the boat towards them. "We'll get you to shore!"
(Timeskip)
After (Y/N) had patched up the unconscious girl, the duo looked in awe of the beast Sinbad had barbecued.
"Whoa, I'd say that's a big catch!" Sin stated. The male nodded.
"Sure is. It's called the Abare narwhal," (Y/N) slapped a fist to her palm.
"I knew I recognized it! My mother took me and a few of my nursery mates south one time when we were still training! She had us all wrestle one until we broke it's horn off," Both males' eyes widened.
"Blightstar sure is a strict teacher,"
"Don't get me started,"
"While they're usually found in the southern seas, once a year, they head northward to spawn," the stranger explained.
"That's amazing," Sinbad complimented.
"You we're trying to take them down with just one harpoon?" (Y/N) asked, getting a little too close for his comfort. Suddenly, she turned her head to the girl who had woken up.
"Brother, did you finally get one?" She asked excitedly. She looked so happy. "You did!" She climbed onto the carcass. "I always believed you were more than a swimmer! Way to go brother! Amazing!" She jumped down. "Darn, I wish I saw that. But why's it burnt? Hey, who are you two?" She asked, pointing at the adventurers. Sinbad grabbed her hand, a flirtatious aura about him.
"Are you asking me? Call me Sinbad. A beautiful woman is beautiful anywhere in the world," the moment was cut short as (Y/N) snatched him back by his collar.
"Sorry, he has no self control whatsoever. I'm (W/N), but you can call me (Y/N), and this idiot is Sinbad,"
"Darn it," Sinbad muttered. The girl smiled.
"I'm Pipirika,"
"Nice to meet you Pipirika," Sinbad greeted before turning to the male. "And we didn't catch your name yet,"
"Yeah," he said halfheartedly.
"It's Hina," His sister answered. "His name's Hina. At 21, my brother still has his childhood name. But now that he's captured an Abare narwhale, he'll finally be granted his warrior name!" (Y/N)'s eye's widened.
"Warrior name? Now you're speaking my language! So this whole thing is like a warrior assessment?" Pipirika nodded.
"Yup! It's tradition. Now my brother will finally be recognized by "the one"," she teased.
"The one?" Sinbad asked.
"She's fierce and elegant. Even I admire her, as a woman. She's the most beautiful woman in Imuchakk!"
"Really?" Sinbad's eye's lit up. (Y/N) flicked him with her tail.
"Don't even think about it!" She snapped, not once caring about the siblings' amazement of her suddenly appearing tail.
(Timeskip)
The group huddled around a campfire (Y/N) had whipped up, eating roasted narwhale.
"I see!" Pipirika said. "So you're one of those dragon people (Y/N)! I've caught glimpses of them before, but we're not allowed to talk to them," the dragon swallowed the meat in her mouth.
"I'm shocked they're tribes up here. I'll have to watch my step so I don't start a territory dispute,"
"And you said you both were warriors?" Sinbad nodded.
"Yeah, (Y/N)'s mom is the leader of her tribe and before we came here, she gave me the warrior name Wavereader," the Imuchakk woman's eyes sparkled.
"Wow! I had no idea dragons also had warrior names!"
"Yup," (Y/N) chuckled. "Like you guys, getting your warrior name is the old way to be seen as an adult in the tribe's eyes. But enough about us, tell us about Imuchakk,"
"Well, it's pure white,"
"Right," Sinbad interrupted. "But we're more curious about its ruler. What kind of king-,"
"Or leader," (Y/N) interjected.
"Or leader is he?"
"Our father is the patriarch," Pipirika answered.
"Really?" Sinbad asked in shock.
"Yup! Looks like we have plenty in common (Y/N)!"
"I'll say. If that's the case, then take us with you!"
"What?" Hina finally spoke. "Look, (Y/N), Sinbad, outsiders aren't welcomed in our community. They'll give you both dirty looks,"
"That doesn't bother us!" Sin insisted as he stood up. "It's an unfamiliar country with unfamiliar people. I want to see it all, so we can change the world!" Hina's eyes widened.
"Good old Sin," (Y/N) joked. "I wouldn't try to stop him, he'll find a way in one way or another!" There was another breeze as Sin jumped on his friend, nearly causing her to choke.
"Cold!"
"Watch it!"
(Timeskip)
Sinbad and (Y/N) found Hina staring out at the sea after Pipirika had fallen asleep.
"It's a beautiful night," (Y/N) greeted, surprising him.
"We wanted to apologize," Sin admitted. "We stole the Abare narwhale from you. But you were desprate to save your sister," Hina looked back at him in shock. "That was impressive,"
"You think so?" (Y/N) smiled.
"From one leader's child to another, it's not the deed which makes the warrior, it's the heart behind the deed," His cheeks flushed a bit.
"T-thank you,"
(Timeskip)
"Pure white. Big, strong people. Strangely built houses and of course the beautiful women!" Sin said in awe of the village before sneezing and moving closer to (Y/N), who was currently using her wings as a cloak. She glared at him.
"Behave Sinbad,"
"Imuchakk is a land of snow and ice," Pipirika stated.
"Welcome back!" A voice boomed. A giant (well they were all giants) man stood at the gate. He was large and imposing and to Sinbad, he gave off the same aura as Blightstar. "My children," Pipirika ran up to the battle tested man and hugged him.
"Father!"
"We have returned," Hina said more reserved.
"I see," Sinbad and (Y/N) stepped forward. "Who are you?"
"I'm Sinbad," the boy greeted. "And this is my friend (Y/N). We venture all parts of the world," he pointed his spear at them.
"This is Imuchakk. Outsiders are not welcomed," he glared at (Y/N)'s wings. "And I don't know why you have wandered from your tribe dragon, but you have no place here," the warrior narrowed her eyes.
"I'm not from the tribe you live beside, I'm from a southern volcano,"
"Father," Pipirika interrupted. Hina joined her.
"Sinbad and (Y/N) are my-,"
"Dear son," the patriarch said. "You're finally one of us, a warrior. You have the responsibility to protect our people and land from all enemies. Do not forget that," he turned to leave as Hina bowed.
"Of course," the leader addressed the village.
"Tonight is the Maharagan! Prepare for the feast!"
"Yeah!" They cheered.
(Timeskip)
The duo was led into the leader's home and were given more suitable clothes. Sin still huddled to his friend.
"What's Maharagan?"
"It's a traditional festival of Imuchakk," Pipirika explained.
"It celebrates those who've achieved the rite of passage," Hina added. "And it's also when their warrior name is given. It's also a ritual of gratitude to appreciate the blessing of the harvest,"
"Since you took him down, you're officially a warrior tomorrow," Pipirika said proudly.
"I should tell you about the strange happenings that occurred while you were away," the leader informed them.
"Strange happenings?" His son asked.
"An unfamiliar structure suddenly appeared at the northern waterfall. I'm selecting warriors to go investigate. Hina, if you can join them-,"
"I wouldn't," (Y/N) interjected.
"(Y/N)'s right," Sinbad agreed. "We'd advise against it,"
"What?"
"That's a dungeon. Back at my home in Parthevia, we lost dozens of our people who attempted to capture it,"
"I've heard of that before!" Hina stated. "The troops that were sent were totally annihilated, except for a boy and girl succeeded in the capture,"
"That was us," (Y/N) informed them. The leader was no convinced.
"You can't be serious! I don't tolerate those who talk irresponsibly," As he grabbed his spear, the dragon nudged her companion.
"Show em," Sinbad grabbed his sword. As he drew the blade, it glowed blue, shocking the family.
"Is that your emblem as a capturer?"
"Indeed," he reaffirmed. "The djinn from that dungeon lives in here," Sinbad set the blade back down before they both were offered a bowl by the patriarch.
"In Imuchakk, we bestow the greatest honor to the braves. From what Pipirika told me, you both have been recognized by a tribe of dragons as capable warriors. I hope you forgive my rudeness," the two smiled and nodded, accepting the bowl.
"It's natural to be suspicious of outsiders," (Y/N) assured. "We dragons tribes have a very similar set of rules. My own mother is our current leader, so I know the importance of those rules better than most. That's why I am imploring, don't let anyone near the dungeon,"
"Understood, I trust your word," Pipirika suddenly perked up.
"Brother, have you told her about the good news yet?"
"No, I-,"
"Now that you're an adult, you can go to her-,"
"Quit it! I can't do that now!" Hina rejected. There was then a commotion outside.
"It's about to commence!"
"Hurry!"
The group walked out as the patriarch greeted the villagers.
"Tonight is the Maharagan. Let us celebrate the birth of a warrior and the harvest of the sea!"
The night was filled with music, food, drink, and dancing. (Y/N) and Sinbad both gave the warriors of the village a run for their money in a drinking competition while the dragon dominated a eating contest, though many argued her beast form was an unfair advantage. As Sinbad flirted with many of the village women, (Y/N) felt annoyed at her companion's antics, but Sinbad was Sinbad so she ignored it. One of the warriors eventually asked (Y/N) to dance, much to her shock. Sinbad was amazed by his partner's light footedness and she was definitely not shabby in Imuchakk traditional clothing. He was a bit frustrated that she was dancing with the men, though he didn't understand why. Eventually, one of the children knocked Sinbad straight into (Y/N). The two were bright red as the adults began wolf whistling. At first, (Y/N) began to pull away, but Sin insisted and the two danced most of the rest of night away. Back at the house, they both collapsed into their beds, bellies full of alcohol and food. (Y/N)'s face scrunched up at some noise. She opened her eyes in time to see Sinbad unconsciously kicked an unknown assailant were it hurt.
"Sinbad!" She yelled as the assassin jumped away. Her friend was on his feet as the assassin attempted to attack the female. She batted him away with her tail and jumped to his side. The stranger launched a sharp weapon attached to a whip at them. Sinbad deflected it with his sword and grabbed the weapon.
"A kid?" He said in astonishment. (Y/N) huffed.
"You'll be punished for your mischief!" Sinbad pulled him down, only for another weapon to shoot at them and wrapped around his ankles, knocking him down. (Y/N) kicked the assassin away as she helped her friend.
"That's all you've got?" The assailant taunted. "I knew I could take you both down alone," Sinbad suddenly smiled as he grabbed his sword.
"Sucks for you!" (Y/N) hovered into the air as Sinbad electrified the weapon, knocking boy out cold. (Y/N) sweatdropped.
"Tell me you didn't roast him like the Abare narwhale,"
(Timeskip)
By the time Pipirika and Hina had raced in due to the commotion, Sinbad and (Y/N) had already tied up the boy who woke up.
"Who the heck are you?" Sinbad demanded. "Were you sent by Parthevia?" The boy laughed much to to Hina's anger.
"You bastard!" (Y/N) studied the boy.
"I can't believe kids like you are becoming assassins now. Where I'm from, you'd be mistaken for a young apprentice," he laughed again.
"What's with that attitude?" Sinbad asked. "At such a young age, I don't know where you came from, but your parents would be disappointed,"
"Shut up,"
"What's with you?" Sinbad demanded.
"Yeah, you speak like that to your elders?" (Y/N) scolded.
"Sinbad, (Y/N), you gotta be more strict with him," Hina implored. "He's an assassin after all,"
"We know that," Sin assured. "That's why we're disciplining him on his speech,"
"What? But it's not about discipline,"
"These types require discipline in the basic of basics," (Y/N) explained. "Understood?" She asked the boy. "That kind of attitude is what gets you into trouble, like assassination. It's an insult to your parents,"
"I told you to shut up!" The boy growled. "My parents are long gone! I murdered them when I was six!" He laughed. "What? Scared of me now?" Sinbad slapped him across the face.
"Don't boast about that," the dragon shook her head.
"Poor kid," he seethed with rage.
"Don't look at me like that," (Y/N) heard the rope being torn away and wrapped her tail around Sin's waist. "You're just kids yourselves so shut up!" The assassin lunged and at the same time, (Y/N) pulled her friend away. Frustrated, the boy threw the knife, cutting her cheek. Smoke suddenly filled the room, clouding their vision.
"Don't come near me," his voice said. "You don't understand," as the smoke cleared, the boy was gone. They ran to the window took look.
"Where did they come from?" Sinbad asked before looking worryingly at (Y/N)'s cheek.
"(Y/N)! Are you ok?" She sighed.
"I'm fine, it's just a little cut. Nothing serious. Hina, you should go get ready for the ritual,"
"But wait, who were those guys?"
"Must be from the Partevian Army," Sin deduced. "They must've been sent to capture us,"
"That means you're wanted?" Pipirika asked. "But why?"
"I betrayed the country and a lot of other things," he said happily.
"I helped and encouraged him!" (Y/N) admitted happily.
"Aren't you scared?" Hina asked. "You'll both be targeted by assassins all your lives!"
"We decided to follow our destiny," Sinbad explained. "We'll overcome any obstacle that comes our way!"
(Timeskip)
(Y/N) had her wings curled around two sleeping children as Sinbad smiled.
"You're a natural with kids. Ever think of having some?" She blushed.
"That's a weird question from you. Maybe, if I meet the right person," Sinbad felt something burn within him. He didn't like the idea of her having kids with some else.
"Sinbad! (Y/N)!" Pipirika yelled frantically. "It's brother! Brother's going to the dungeon to probe himself a true warrior!" Their eyes widened.
"That idiot!" (Y/N) said, carefully standing up as to not wake the kids. Her friend nodded in agreement.
"The dungeon kills all except those who are worthy of being a King's candidate. Tens of thousands of men lost their lives because of their ambition,"
"The fool's gonna get himself killed. We need to move if we want to save him,"
"Brother," Pipirika muttered sadly.
"We won't let him die," the dragon promised. "Sinbad, we might be able to cut him off if we fly,"
"Right,"
"But how can you guarantee that you'll come back!"
"We just know," Sinbad assured, turning back with a fierce look. "We're not gonna die,"
The two raced off. Once there was enough space, (Y/N) transformed and Sinbad climbed onto her back. At his speeds, through the blistering winds, the teenagers raced to the dungeon. Once in sight the two landed and walked in, unaware of Yunan's watchful gaze.
