A WINCE RUMBLED DEEP DOWN in her throat while her eyes sharply closed sharp from the friction of raw bloody knuckles and the wet fresh cloth. She just wanted to go back to sleep and get some good rest. Yet instead she's stuck in a trance of becoming an insomniac because it's like every time she falls asleep, this monster is able to make the most of her unconscious body like this is the only chance it gets to really let itself in without asking for permission. But, it was morning by now, the exact time where birds outside started to sing and harmonize, and the sun was rising up through the silhouette trees.
Claudia could only whimper another time and she jerked her right hand back out of being extremely sensitive and jumpy - a pitch of shock as well- which made Eleven send her an apologetic look. And even if it really fucking hurt, Claudia knew that she was only trying to help...and she really was helping her.
Sniffling her way through her calm and slow breaths, the Runaway tried to distract herself from the pain and turn her attention on the brunette girl in front of her, "Are you sure I didn't hurt you?" Her voice was still hoarse and shaky, too fragile. Too frail.
This was the third reassurance Jane Hopper had to give, but she wasn't going to be shutting her up anytime soon because, even if she didn't know and understand everything, she understood, "No, Claudsy. I am okay," She replied as she took hold of the white soft gauze bandage that once laid beside her, resting Claudia's hands on her crossed legs as she unwrapped the medical equipment, "are you okay?"
A stupid question, but Claudia didn't mind that Eleven asked her that. Even if her visible bags - as dark as death - glared back at her and her skin now more pale than what her olive-skinned used to shine like, was reflecting off of her like toxic radiation.
It was satisfying to watch how cautious and gentle Eleven was with things that she touched, the way her eyes turned intent on something, and Claudia heavily exhaled, "No, not really. But at least I don't start work until 5pm," And to be honest, Claudia really was happy that she got some kind of break for today and she can relax. A small hum was the reaction Eleven gave her as she smiled faintly at Claudia before looking back down to her knuckles and beginning to wrap the pliant bandage around them, in which both the girls tried to ignore Claudia's scrunched up face while groaning. Jane was quick enough to murmur an apology.
Claudia's mind ran through questions and things she could possibly say, but it was like all of her thinking was fading away quicker than she assumed. So she blinked a couple of times, as if that might help her out, "So...are you going to see Mike today?"
The bandaging stopped.
Eleven froze.
Oh shit, the Runaway thought alarmingly in her head. Because that immediately wasn't a good sign and the brunette frowned.
But then the bandaging continued almost five seconds later, Eleven shook her head as her grip on Claudia's hand tightened just a little to get a more firm balance, "No," The telekinetic girl could tell that the other brunette was no expecting that, and she was glad enough to carry on, "I dumped his ass at the mall yesterday."
Claudia choked on her saliva.
Not because Eleven was at the mall, she probably would have guessed that she needed a break. Ya know...cabin fever.
But more in the fact that she dumped Mike.
"You what?!" She didn't want Eleven to repeat what she said, and a small hiss slipped out of her tongue when she put a small bit of pressure on the raw skin that now was trapped underneath the bandage. That was only the second time Jane Hopper has used excessive language so obviously it came out as a big shock to Parker, who could only frown a bit more as her concerned dull eyes lingered on her brown ones, "W-Why? What did he do?"
At first, she shrugged her shoulders, but then she sighed, "He lied to me, and Max helped me dump him, said he wasn't worth it or something like that," She answered almost in a monotone way if you exclude the part where Eleven exaggerated 'lied'. Being done with her right hand, Eleven then proceeded to move to Claudia's exposed left knuckles, "Also...I've been lying too."
Claudia has always known the brunette girl to be strong on the motto 'friends don't lie', so she was intrigued to know exactly what Eleven was talking about. Shuffling closer to her, Claudia leaned in and looked at her with a curious gaze, "About what?"
Eleven puffed out some of the air, "About Mike, I um-" Suddenly, she sounded like she was choking back words, struggling to find the right ones in her small punch of vocabulary and put it into a sentence, "I don't like him. I never really did," She answered slowly, now keeping her attention onto Claudia's face as she examined how it softened yet left just a patch of confusion in the midst of it all.
She's never been that type of person, Jane was never one of those girls that seemed and acted like they would play with a guy's feelings, so it only made Claudia part her lips agape with a small tug of force. And it kind of made sense to the Runaway, since Eleven was never that affectionate to the Wheeler boy. Claudia just always assumed it was because Eleven doesn't have experience whatsoever and was only doing things that she's observed in soap operas, "So you've been faking it?"
Eleven felt a small bubble of guilt grow in her stomach as she slowly nodded her head out of shame. She could feel how the bubble was getting to her throat, and it overpowered her mouth and the words that spoke within it, "it was...p-pit...pity. I didn't really know what I was doing though; I just felt bad for him. Claudia, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you."
Claudia wasn't mad at Eleven, hell, she wasn't even disappointed. She understood where Eleven was going at from this point on; she's always been a pleaser for everyone all the while sticking to her ground with bravery and independence. Claudia swallowed some of the saliva that had been trying to soothe her now dry mouth, the impact of what Eleven was saying really had been quite a shock, "Hey, no, no. El, it's okay, you honestly don't need to apologise for anything," She breathed in fussily, "I understand."
Eleven was finishing up with Claudia's left knuckles, relief washing over her face as she smiled like a subtle ragdoll, "Thank you," She started off while taking hold of the elastic clip and digging it into the bandage to stick it together, "sorry about your boombox too."
Even if Claudia was in deep shock from everything that had happened, at least she was able to let out a small chuckle.
