Distance - Jimin

Looking at the door from time to time, Jimin waited for Y/n. When she came in, he smiled to himself. Oh, how he had missed her! Looking at her reminded him of all the times he wished he could see her. But nostalgia soon morphed into melancholy when he realized she would never be his because they were nothing more than best friends. She walked up to him, smiling widely, and hugged him tightly. However, he just lightly patted her back in return. If he hugged her, he'd probably never want to let go. She looked a little taken aback, but was quick to brush it off.

"How have you been, Jimin?"

"Good. I missed you."

"I could write three volumes about it," she sighed, rolling her eyes, "But that's life."

Her beautiful features were painted with sorrow even if she tried to play it cool. There was too much noise because of the party, so he led her to the backdoor of the house. It was quieter and darker there and it seemed like the perfect place for them to talk peacefully. They started out with small talk. Then, there was a moment silence.

"Can I ask you something?" She asked, hesitantly, to which he nodded.

"Aren't we like soulmates?" She chuckled, "No matter what, we always stick together. No matter how long we have to wait, we always end up finding each other. Am I just talking nonsense?"

Jimin smiled inwardly and shook his head.

"Absolutely not. I think it's only fair since we grew up toget-Y/n?" He cut himself off.

"Hmm?"

He frowned a little, not meeting her eyes.

"S-stop staring at me," he stuttered, blushing hard.

There was a minute of quiet.

"That's it, isn't it?" She whispered, "I'm making you uncomfortable, right? That's why you're pushing me away? All those cold replies, the reluctance to talk, the I'm-too-busy-to-meet-you, it's because you wanted me out of your life, right?"

When he looked up at her, wide-eyed, she had already taken a few steps away from him. He panicked slightly. She asked it so gently, but her face gave away no sign of what she felt. Her expression was unreadable. He wanted to explain to her how wrong she was, but he didn't get the chance to.

"Jimin!" One of his female colleagues called him, which made him turn away from Y/n, "What are you doing here? It's your party!"

"Give me a minute."

When he faced Y/n again, she had disappeared.

Y/n knew it was coming. She had prepared herself for it. And yet, it hurt more than she'd like to admit. She knew that Jimin had been distancing himself from her. She just didn't know why. Whatever happened at the party just cleared all doubts and questions. She left after the little incident, slipping out from the open backdoor, and walked away from his house. She didn't want to get back home, didn't want to see the place where the couple of best friends had shared so many memories. So, she chose to go to the park.

After all his friends left, more like, after asking all his friends to leave by saying that something urgent came up, Jimin decided to go to Y/n's house and explain what had happened. The boy drove straight to the girl's. Her door was locked.

'Where is she?' he thought.

He called her a few times, but she didn't reply. So he decided to wait for her at her doorstep.
