“Where are you going?” Chan leans forward and gestures a hand up.
“I’m going to go take a shower, I’ve got… somewhere to be in a few hours.” Jeongin blushes lightly and shrugs.
Jisung turns his head around quickly and puts his hand over the door. “Where?”
Jeongin blushes darker and shakes his head. “Meeting up with a friend.”
“Why are you hesitating?” Jisung raises one of his eyebrows. “Which friend?”
“His name is Y/N.” Jeongin reaches for the doorknob. “I’ll be back soon, I promise.”
“Y/N?” Felix asks and pulls one of his earphones out. “Isn’t he the one who you were talking to until like 3am last night?”
Chan gasps like a parent and covers his mouth. “3am?”
Minho rolls his eyes. “You didn’t even get home until 2:30.”
“This isn’t about me.” Chan shakes his head and points at Jeongin. “He’s a friend but you stayed up on the phone with him until 3am?”
“People do that.”
“You don’t.”
Jeongin crosses his arms and moves between his feet. “I asked him… on a date… and we’re going tonight.”
“A date?” Everyone almost screams it simultaneously.
“Yes, but I need to go take a shower, so… can I go?” Jeongin gestures to the door and slowly starts trying to open the door. “Thanks, bye, love you guys, be back soon.”
Jisung stares at him for a second as Jeongin waves and pushes past, slipping out of the door.
“Well… okay.”
*
Jeongin rocks up on his toes and fixes his shirt as he waits for you. The wind starts to pick up at he looks around, debating going inside to wait for you instead. You jog up to him, wrapped up in a jacket.
“Hey, sorry, I missed my bus and ran down the street to catch the next one.” You tilt your head and look at him, smiling softly. “Hi.”
Jeongin’s eyes go wider and he nods. “No problem, it’s okay. It’s cold out here, we should probably go inside.”
Both of you reach for the doorknob at the same time, fingers touching slightly. Both of your cheeks go red as you stare at each other until Jeongin grabs the doorknob and opens it for you, standing to the side. You duck your head slightly and step inside, looking around the small restaurant.
“Where do you normally sit?” You turn towards him, tilting your head slightly.
“Over in the corner.” Jeongin points before shaking his head quickly. “But we can sit wherever you want.”
You shake your head and start walking to his seat. “I want the full effect of the place you wanted to show me.”
You turn away from him, almost missing his flustered expression and the blush spreading over to his ears. He follows you and sits in front of you, smiling at the waitress.
“Hello, do you want your usual?” She asks, looking between the two of you. “Or should I make it double?”
“That sounds good.” You nod and tap your fingers on the table. “And can I get a lemonade?”
The waitress smiles and nods, walking back to the kitchen area. Jeongin bites his lip and looks up at you.
“Does this feel kind of awkward to you?” He asks after a few seconds. “Well… I hope that doesn’t sound rude, but I just feel a lot tenser than I normally am around you.”
You nod and shrug one of your shoulders. “A bit, but I’m trying to push past it, so I can enjoy myself. I don’t think you know how ecstatic I was when you asked me out. I really want to focus on you and having fun instead of nervous feelings.”
Jeongin’s shoulders relax and he nods. “I agree.”
You smile at each other, enjoying a comfortable, at least a bit more comfortable than earlier, silence until you sit up.
“I walk by this place a lot, hardly even recognized the name when you told me. Is there one reason in particular why you like this place?”
Jeongin hums and breaks eye contact, trying to memorize the table’s patterns. “I… don’t really know. Hardly anybody comes in, the staff is really nice, the food is good, prices aren’t bad, it’s just a bunch of stuff. I don’t really have a single solid reason.”
“Well I like it so far, so I think I might be able to trust your taste.”
“I hope you can, especially since you ordered the same food as I did.”
You snort and cover your mouth, making Jeongin jerk his head up to watch you. “Fair point.”
The waitress walks back and sets down your drinks, as well as some different types of bread. Jeongin hums and sits up, placing a small plate in front of you.
“They have really good bread here,” Jeongin points and nods.
“Isn’t all bread good?”
He smiles and grabs the balsamic vinegar next to you. “Touché, but it’s especially good here. And even more especially good, even though that doesn’t make sense if you put this on it.”
“I guess I’ll believe you,” You hum and grab a few pieces.
“You said you would trust my taste.” He gestures to you, holding a garlic knot in his hand. “I’m threatening you at bread point right now.”
You laugh again and hold your hands up in surrender. “Fine, fine.”
He smiles at you and starts eating, glancing up at you every few seconds. After a few minutes of talking and eating, the waitress comes back, setting two pizzas down in front of you.
“Ooh,” You hold your hand over your stomach and hum. “I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I looked at this.”
“Almost as captivating as you.”
Your ears start to go red and your mouth drops open slightly. “Are you flirting?”
Jeongin shrugs and places a piece of pizza on his plate, pushing down the fluttering off his heart. You smile and look down, scratching the back of your head.
“I wasn’t expecting that from you.”
“Is that a bad thing?” Jeongin messes with his napkin and glances up at you a few times.
You shake your head and grab a slice of pizza, tapping the table in front of him. “No, I liked it, I just wasn’t expecting it at the moment.”
You both blush as you look at each other, alternating between making eye contact and avoiding eye contact. It’s quiet for a moment before Jeongin sits up and starts telling you a story about a dance practice gone awry, he moves his hands dramatically, even moving the different things on the table as he does so. You nod along quickly, eating your pizza as you do so, completely captivated by his general being.
Eventually, the pizza is gone but you two continue to talk and tell stories, spouting random facts about yourselves and anything else that pops up into your head. The plates in front of you have disappeared, probably from the waitress taking them but who really knows, and your drinks have been filled up twenty times or more through the course of the multiple twists and turns of the conversations. After a while one of you breaks away from each other for a second and looks around, noticing the lack of any other customers in the building.
“We’ve been here for… a while.” Jeongin mentions.
“I didn’t even notice how long we’ve been talking.” You tap your feet and look up at him, tilting your heads side to side. “Do you want to go get dessert? We can continue this conversation? Maybe?”
Jeongin laughs and nods. “I’ll pay for the pizza if you pay for dessert.”
“Deal.” You nod after him and stand. “Do you have any other places you suggest? I think I might go to you from now on for places to go and eat.”
Jeongin hums and tilts his head side to side. “I’ll think about it for a minute.”
