“Hey! We haven’t seen each other in forever.”

“Yeah.” You say simply and watch the concrete as you walk.

He follows you and grabs your arm, pulling you around. “What’s wrong, dude? We haven’t talked in weeks and I feel like I haven’t seen your face in months. You got a haircut.”

“Yep.” You nod and turn around again, pulling out your phone.

“Are you ignoring me?” He frowns, following close after you. “I don’t wake up to your texts anymore. You never ask if we can hang out.”

You shrug and stay silent, continuing to walk.

“I’ll take that as a yes. Can you tell me what I did wrong? What can I do to fix it? I just want to talk to you, Y/N.”

“You didn’t three weeks ago.” You mumble, rolling your eyes.

“What? Is this about me forgetting about the movie we were supposed to watch?” Mark moves in front you, stopping you from going anywhere. “It was an accident, I promise.”

“It’s not about that, Mark. Please get out of my way.”

“What is it about then? I don’t remember anything else.”

You scoff and rub your temples. “Of course, you don’t.”

“What is that supposed to mean?”

“It means that you didn’t just forget that one time, Mark!” You blow up and shove him slightly, pushing his chest. “You didn’t just forget the movie night! You forgot the other ten times we were supposed to hang out before that! And you ignored every phone call and text message and my desperate pleas that I just wanted to see you, Mark! I just wanted to see that you were okay and that you cared about me as much as I cared about you!”

You hiccup and your glare turns into tears.

“I know that you’re busy with work and I know you have a lot riding on you, but I couldn’t deal with the once a month ‘yeah, we’re still friends’ text from you and then radio-silence! Friends are supposed to make an active decision to spend time together and to see each other and to make sure the other knows that you care!”

Mark stares at you and steps forward, wincing when you step back.

“Friendships are supposed to be two-sided, Mark. Not just me trying to check in on you and getting ignored. Not me making other plans when we schedule times to hang out because I know it won’t happen. Not you ignoring me until you push yourself too far and need someone to pick you up again. That’s not a friendship, Mark. What we have- had isn’t a friendship.”

Mark’s eyes start watering up and you choke back a sob, covering your mouth.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Mark shakes his head and pulls you to the side.

“I tried!” None of your words have any sting anymore and a sudden rush of exhaustion pours over your body. “I sent you texts and I left voicemails and I showed up at your house and cried to Taeyong. You weren’t there, Mark. You’re never here. I shouldn’t have left without telling you, but did I really even have a choice to tell you?”

Mark watches you closely and pulls you into a tight hug. His tears finally start falling when you don’t wrap your arms around his waist like you normally do.

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t know you felt like that. I didn’t realize- I just- I didn’t know…” He mumbles into your hair, gripping your shoulders tighter. “I’m sorry. I’ll do everything I can to make it up to you. I’ll spend every waking second with you. I’ll give you a key to the dance room, I’ll give you keys to the dorms, I’ll spend every minute I’m not working texting you and calling you. I’ll get better at spending time with you and taking care of myself.”

You push him back slightly and look up at him, wiping under his eyes. “You do so much, Mark. You don’t have to spend all of your life in the SM building.”

“I- I know.” He nods, closing his eyes at your touch. “I missed you so much, Y/N. Please forgive me. Give me a second chance and I will try as hard as I can not to mess it up. And if I do, you never have to talk to me or think about me again.”

“I’ll forgive you.” You nod and step closer to him, wrapping your arms around his waist. “Just, please don’t hurt me again. I don’t think I could handle it.”

“I promise you and everything I love that I won’t.”
