growing up, elicia had always been fond of beautiful things. she would have all sorts of collections, ranging from flowers to leaves with fascinating shapes to pieces of beautifully colored silk. everyone thought elicia saw the beauty in everything, which she did. 

except for her own.

every morning when she woke up, she would look in the mirror for ten minutes, counting every single one of her flaws. a week ago, terrible acne. six days ago, large thighs. five days ago, frizzy hair. four days ago, flabby stomach. three days ago, large wrists. 

she didn't see anything beautiful in her.

except for her eyes. that was the one thing she had nothing to complain about.

no one thought she was extremely beautiful either. elicia wasn't skinny. she didn't have the cheekbones, she didn't have the hair, she didn't have the body. it was the reason she looked for beautiful things; it distracted her from the lack of beauty in herself.

but what she did was not beautiful at all.
