Chapter 19: The Thief's Deja Vu
~Jerome~
I was starting to think all of the other teams at the training school knew that my team had the ribbon. During class, they were all constantly glaring at us, or at least looking at us in a way that seemed like they were examining us.
I blamed Nolan. He was probably the one who gave it away. There was no way he could keep it a secret.
We were all given a break right now so my team moved away from everyone so we could talk quietly about the current circumstances and figure out what we should do about the fact that all the teams knew we had the ribbon.
"I say we should constantly be moving the ribbon so it's never in the same spot," Amethyst said in a quiet voice. "That way, a new location might be one they already searched so chances are, they won't search it again."
Jack snorted. "That's a stupid idea. Who's to say that nobody will follow us to the new location. It's risky."
"Not as risky as it is keeping it in the same spot when they know we have it," Amethyst said. "They'll just end up checking all the spots that we'll most likely hide it in."
"Especially since siblings of one of our teammates are on an opposing team," I said, glaring at Nolan. "They'll probably end up knowing all the places you would most likely hide the ribbon in."
"Well, jokes on you, because my siblings don't know me as well as they think they do," Nolan said.
"Wait, I've got it," Amethyst said. "Why don't we hide the ribbon close to where we found it? No other teams have solved the riddle and now that they know we have it, they won't bother trying to solve it."
"Meaning they won't even think of looking where we found it," Nolan said. "I like that."
"Well, since you like it, I don't," I said.
Amethyst sighed. "Seriously? You two still haven't figured out whatever problem you have with each other?"
"No, we figured it out," I said. "I figured out that I hate him."
"And I figured out that he's an idiot whom I can't stand," Nolan said.
"I'm the idiot? You're the idiot."
"You face is an idiot."
"Oh, wow, how mature."
"It's more mature than anything that has ever came out of you mouth."
I glared at Nolan as Amethyst sighed again, something she had been doing a whole lot from being on this team, I noticed. "Can you two please just get along whenever the four of us are together?" Amethyst asked. "We're not getting anything done because you two won't stop arguing."
"Yeah, geez," Jack said. "It's giving me a headache."
"You don't help either, Jack," Amethyst said. "You're always disagreeing with me as well."
"Whatever," Jack said.
"I can try getting along but I can't say the same for Jerome," Nolan said, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Uh, I'll do better than just trying to get along," I said. "I will get along because I actually care about the team."
"So do I," Nolan said.
