Chapter 1: I Know It's Been A While

One year later...

"Commander Prescott?"

I looked up from the paperwork on my desk to look at one off the training officers standing at my office door.

"Yes?"

"Crawford is here to see you."

I nodded then waved my hand, "Let him in."

I complied to my orders and soon after, the boy I've grown to love was entering the room wearing gym clothes in a sweaty mess.

"Hey cupcake," He came around my desk to kiss me but I pushed him back.

"Nope, you just had training," I pointed to his sweaty clothes, "And you're really sweaty, thats a big no no."

Thats one of the things that had changed in the past year. We'd recruited Ace to join the now clean agency. He was the perfect candidate: a teenage boy, son of the previous president's son and working up to being the CEO of his uncle's company. No one would suspect such a respected man.

"You're no fun now that you've become all high and mighty," He pouted then took a seat at the chairs situated in from of my desk.

Another thing that had also changed. After Ryder's...absence, I was given the job to take over. I had the qualifications and knowledge and apparently I 'know more than these knuckleheads ever will'. I didn't turn down the offer because I was ready, and also because I needed something to get my mind off the pit of feelings that had only grown in my mind.

We all graduated by now, the whole gang. Bee and Dean both got accepted into NYU, Taylor and Jacob broke up since Taylor got into Princeton but Jacob wanted to take a gap year to backpack across Europe and his twin Jason got a football scholarship to Penn State.

Ace and I ended up here while my brother is still yet to be found. And for Lucas... we have no idea where he and Penelope Turns disappeared to.

I rolled my eyes at his antics and resumed to my swarm of paperwork. I was too engrossed by the work in front of me that I didn't realise Ace moved closer to me until his finger nudged my chin up to look at him.

"I know what day it is, its okay to be sad," His eyes searched mine, "You're trying to distract yourself with all your Commander duties but I know you're still hurting."

I sighed, putting my pen down, "It's been a year Ace..."

I remembered that day like the back of my hand, even the unexpected visit from my long lost parents.

"Mom? Dad?"

My mouth fell open. My eyes widened.

I could remember those faces anywhere. Although now their appearances changed, grey hair was starting show as well as wrinkles but what stood out the most was that their usually bright vivid eyes were starting to fade and become...dull.

But I guess that should've been a given since I hadn't seen them in over 10 years.

"Children," My mother's voice was still gentle, "My children."

My heart was beating fast. I couldn't believe it.

My parents, the ones that I thought were dead, stood here. Right in front of me.

I ran to them and enveloped them both into a hug, my eyes shutting to savour the warm feeling of being wrapped into their arms once again. I could feel them, it was real.
