"did you tell him?" y/n asked gianna as the two of them were sitting in the van by themselves. the guys were outside, getting to learn more about the new fellas.
"tell who about who?" gianna answered back, confusion obviously braided in her tone. she looked up at her badly cut up fingers so she can face her friend.
"ugh do i have to spell it out?" she responded in frustration. "did you tell julius about what happened to tre?" she inquired again, though this time a lot more clearer.
gianna sat there with a blank stare for a second before she shook her head 'no'. "i didn't have the heart to tell him. i- i didn't even want to say it out loud, tre was like an older brother to me. i'm handling it pretty badly, just imagine how julie is going to take it? that's basically his other half, they grew up together and he put all of his trust in him. he's going to take it ten times worse." she spoke, her voice growing sluggish. the girl's brown eyes looked at the window, watching the sun slowly lowering with the boys sitting in a circle, laughing and chatting to one another.
"it's weird." she paused, looking over at y/n. "we're the only girls now, i don't have another little one to tease and give advice to." she confided, obviously referring to brianna. "i'm going to miss her, she was a good kid."
"i think you should tell him," she spoke, her eyes starring into gianna's concerned ones. "that's his best friend, and you're one of the top people julius trust with his life. i think you should tell him, considering how close a relationship you three had. it'll only be right." she explained, while she started playing with her fingers. a habit she developed.
"i- uh... i'll think about it. it's your brother we're talking about too, you know. he'll appreciate it if it came from you as well." she responded, and y/n hate to admit it but she's correct. julius would appreciate it coming from her, but she didn't want to be the barrier of bad news. "you think about it too, not just me." she added shortly after, "now if you excuse me, i'm going to talk to the new guys." she finished off, before exiting the minivan.
the h/c haired girl watched as the curly-headed girl walked over to the circle. she noticed jaeden's eyes glancing over at her until he ultimately decided to go over there himself. which caused the girl to quickly turn back around and look at her blanket. however, her gaze soon fixed on jaeden once he opened the sliding door. "are you okay? you haven't come out in a while." he said, his loving and concerned eyes looking over at her.
"i uh i'm fine, i was just talking to gianna," she said softly, shaking her head softly. she was also trying to ignore her desperate feelings for jaeden and thought avoiding him was the best answer. she still was confused about what she wanted with this. they were friends, there was no doubt about it, but she was confused if she wanted this to go further.
"do you want to walk around the woods, you know... to get you out of this stuffy van," he asked, his voice growing hush as he continued with his suggestion. he was afraid the girl was going to say no, she hasn't been the most welcoming recently.
"i uh..." she paused before looking down at her hands. "uh, sure." she finished, her e/c eyes looking up at him once again. she waited for jaeden to exit the vehicle, and once he did he followed after him.
she put on oliver's old orange beanie while she started walking alongside jaeden. she saw gianna look at the two of them with a raised brow, however, the brunette beside her didn't notice, so she held her index finger up to say "give me a minute". the curly-headed girl understood perfectly, nodding her head in response.
as the two walked further away from the group, she heard gianna's voice calling julius' name faintly. she must be telling him. i hope he'll be okay.
"he'll be okay. of course, it would take him a while to adjust, but he'll be fine. he's strong." jaeden said, reassuring the girl. his fingers slowly intertwine with her's and she let it. she gripped onto his hand, she just needed comfort right now. she didn't expect herself to take this so hard.
"y/n." jaeden said, looking down at the girl. she hummed in response and waited for him to continue. "you know you don't have to keep your tough act up anymore, right? it's okay to feel emotion around people. i just don't want you bottling up everything, it'll hurt more in the long run if you do. plus i just want us to be honest with each other." she remained silent, however, not exactly knowing what to say. "for example, i want you to be honest with your feelings with me. i feel like you try to keep pushing me away because you're scared."
y/n immediately stopped walking, causing jaeden to come to an erupt halt. she lifted her head, allowing her e/c eyes to look at his'. "i'm scared, okay? all the guys i've opened up to all gotten hurt or killed in the end. like oliver and colton.." she explained, however before she can say another word, he started speaking.
"who's colton?" he asked, his head tilted slightly. he thought he knew her decently well, just to find out little facts. "you don't have to tell me if you don't want to though. i don't want to force you."
"i know i don't have to tell you, but you said we should be honest with each other. i'm willing to open up now and tell you something that has honestly gutted me and caused me to keep a barrier up because,, i honestly feel like you should know about this." a deep sigh left her lips as she was preparing herself mentally and emotionally for this.
"colton was my first boyfriend and possibly the first guy i actually fell in love with. well, i mean other than zac efron from his high school musical days, but anyways, we've been together for quite some time. we were like this close." she paused to cross her fingers to show how close their bond was. "but he died trying to save oli. the reason i've been so reserved is because of that. like what if that happens to you? you die because of a walker bite, it's just a scary thought and i don't want to go through it again."
jaeden rubbed her shoulders comfortably, "shh, i'm not going anywhere, okay? i'm here to stay, so you don't have to worry." she nodded her head slowly before wrapping her arms around him, pulling him into an embrace. "thank you for opening up to me."
"y/n?" he asked softly, still holding onto the vulnerable girl. "yes?" she asked in response. "i really really like you, and i'll do anything to protect you."
"i really really like you too."
