It was known originally as "Slendersludge",a black tar-like substance which appear to be sentient.It is used to control proxies (some proxies even said to have the Azoth inplace of their blood),being thrown up by Slender Sickness affected person or injured ones.Sometimes "bled out" by the Slenderman Himself,leading some to believe it may be His "blood".It is capable of regenerating itself, and is highly flammable and sometimes even explosive.
Fun fact: The name comes from the theoretical Azoth of Alchemy.
