Four days after A Chat in the Dark

"Yeeeh! Yeeeh! Yeeeh! Yeeeh!" All the guests in the hostel came awake one after another; the first ones roused by the noise outside, and everyone else by their roommates moving about.

"What is that? It sounds like someone's in trouble!"

Plagg buried himself under Adrien's pillow, trying to plug his ears with the material and go back to sleep. It didn't work. Once everyone else who was awake had migrated outside to investigate, Plagg pushed himself out of his hiding spot.

"Adrien, why is everyone making noise? I still want to sleep."

"I don't know, but I intend to find out, Plagg -"

"No! You're not going to transform here, are you? We're essentially on vacation!"

"Claws out!" Adrien finished. Despite his complaints, Plagg was whisked into the ring.

"That baby is sleeping through all of this?" one of the other hostel guests asked. "My daughter never let me get any sleep when she was that size! I'm jealous."

"Hey!" the younger woman next to her poked her mother. "You wouldn't dare want me any other way."

"It's inherited," Gina explained. "Marinetta could sleep through anything as a baby. She still can, except for when Brigetta cries."

"I see." It was believable; Marinette herself was still fast asleep.

--

The travelers clustered together outside, whispering about who could be making that noise. Once they were out in the night, no one could locate the noise. It seemed to be coming from every direction! Some of the locals came outside too, but looked unconcerned; some were even laughing at the tourists' panic. "You can calm down, it's just the lemurs."

Yes! That made sense; now that it was pointed out to them, the sound did seem to be coming from the trees. Some people laughed, took recordings, and tried to take pictures in the dark. Others were grumpy about the local wildlife disturbing their sleep.

"They'll be quiet soon, then you can go back to bed."

"It's too close to dawn, I won't be able to go back to sleep!"

--

"Good morning!" Celeste bopped up to their table. She efficiently took down their orders and relayed them to the kitchen, returning as soon as she could find a break in her duties. "How was your first experience with lemurs? Did you get back to sleep?"

"Lemurs?" Marinette asked. "We saw some in the park yesterday..."

"Marinetta is a deep sleeper! She and Brigetta didn't wake up at all while the lemurs were screaming. I went outside with the others, but I went right back to sleep."

"I had to take a bit of a walk before I felt tired again," Adrien contributed, "but I slept well after that."

"You were out? Then did you happen to see Chat Noir?" Celeste's question only got strange looks from the Europeans, so she explained. "I know he belongs in Paris, but I've heard a rumor that some people are adamant they saw him here last night."

"Nope," Adrien shook his head. "I didn't see him." It wasn't a lie; he hadn't looked in any reflective surfaces while he was out.

"Oh, well, I don't know if it's true, but it's too exciting not to look into. Imagine getting to meet a superhero in real life!"

'You already have.' Those around the table shared a secret smile. If it ever became declassified information, then perhaps she'd be allowed to know.
