Scarlett's POV

Monday was hell. I mean, the beginning of the day was okay. By that, I mean the walk to school and breakfast was okay. The second I set foot on school property, I could feel people staring and talking about me. Now, they say it shouldn't matter what people say or think about you, and mostly, it didn't matter to me but it hurt a little right now. People calling me a 'bitch' and a 'slut' wasn't a good feeling. I knew a lot of people didn't like me to begin with, that stupid article just made it that much worse. I decided I needed to hold my head high and pretend I didn't hear them. My thought was they were probably jealous that I got to go over to Wayne Manor. Maybe because it seemed, in the article, that Dick was interested in me.

The minute I saw Dick, however, I felt astronomically better. I felt like he would have my back that day, not that he didn't usually. He grinned at me like he usually did and I started across the courtyard filled with students.
"Hey." He said softly when I reached him.
"Hi." I replied, smiling a little bit.
"How was your Sunday?" He asked.
"It was okay." I muttered, doing my best to ignore the look of disgust directed at me on some girl's face. I looked away, Spencer, talking to a girl caught my eye. "Is that Lila?" I asked, pointing discreetly to the tall, black haired girl standing in front of the blonde boy. Dick looked over at them.
"Yeah." He replied as I looked closer.

They both looked quite upset, making me consider the possibility that Lila might be breaking up with Spencer at that moment. They talked for a few moments before Spencer gave Lila a hug, kissing her cheek. The parted, the both of them looking a little happier. I didn't think Lila had broken up with him at that point. Dick jogged over after Lila walked away, leaning against the reddish brick walk to read her book. Then I felt someone tapping me on the shoulder. I turned around, faced by a girl I recognized from my gym class. I scrunched my eyebrows together, in a "what do you want" kind of way, if that was possible.
"Hi." She said.
"Hi."

"So, I was just curious, is Dick a good boyfriend?" I suppressed a low growl, clenching my fists. This was not a good time for Dick to leave, he could help me with this.
"Nope, because we're not a 'thing'." I said, using my fingers to quote the word.
"It's okay, you can trust me." She said, putting her hand on my shoulder. I squirmed a little, shrugging her hand off.
"I don't even know your name."
"Oh, I'm Lauren." She told me, smiling sweetly. "So--" Lauren whispered. "How was he?" My eyes widened and I basically gagged.
"I didn't sleep with him on Friday!" I practically shouted. "If you'd care to notice, my dress had a corset and Dick is definitely not qualified to lace it up. That supposed 'alone time' was him and I watching a movie called 'The Internship'. Stuff is going on right now, and I really don't have time, and am not in the mood to be questioned by you and your little friends."

The last part want exactly true... I mean, there was "stuff going on" like I wanted to know why Lila had ignored Spencer for a few days.
"Oh please." Lauren scoffed. "Stuff like what? Dick might've knocked you up or something?" Her comment stirred up more anger in me and I had the strong urge to punch her in the face. I didn't, however.
"Can you leave me alone?" I asked politely, as apposed to when I told Melody to leave me alone, basically telling her to fuck off. Lauren frowned.
"Fine, see you in gym." When she stalked away, I thought, "huh, what an ominous statement." The statement itself wasn't ominous, it was the manner in which she said it. I walked away, almost jogging towards Spencer and Dick who stood a few metres in front of the doors to the school.

"Dick, Spencer, what's goin' on?" I inquired. Spencer looked at me.
"Lila's grandpa died."
"Oh." I murmured. "Is that why she hasn't been talking to you?" Spencer nodded, running his fingers through his fluffy hair.
"Yeah."
"Crisis averted." Dick declared, making me laugh softly, however my smile disappeared a few seconds later, when I remembered Lila's grandfather did still die. Which was not good, and I could have saved him.
