- PRESENT

they arrived back at jack's house in no time,
the streets of the small town of pennsylvania
being dead.

zach head constantly constantly spun behind
him and looking to his sides, making sure he
knew of his surroundings.

the two walked up the old wooden porch
stairs, their hands shoved in their hoodie
pockets, exhales pbeing visible because of
the freezing temperature.

the two only looked into each other's eyes,
not knowing how to say goodbye.

" jack baby, why are you standing out in the
cold ?"

a sweet voice was heard opening the door.
a middle aged woman appeared in the
doorway, dark chocolate hair being pulled
back in a low messy bun and black glasses
being held up on the bridge of her nose.

" oh-, and who might this be ?"

kristin asked cautiously. maybe it had
something to do with the heartless look in his
eyes or the overwhelming feeling of crazy,
but jack's mother was immediately terrified
of the boy standing next to her son.

but, jack had a smile on his face, looking to
his mother then back to zach.

" momma, this is zach. zach, this is my
mom."

he introduced the two. his mother wiped the
shocked and feared look off her face, faking
a smile to the eighteen year old.

" hello, zach."

she greeted, pulling her hand out; hoping to
be met with his.

which it was. the cold and dry hand clasped
with hers and shaked it carefully, not wanting
to hurt the woman.

" hello, mrs avery. it's very nice to meet you. "

after a few awkward words, zach excused
himself, explaining he need to get home.
mrs avery closed the door behind jack,
making sure it was locked and shut tight.

" that's the boy you're always talking about ?"

her voice was laced with worry, her eyes
widened and hands shaking.

" yeah. is everything okay, momma? you look
like you've just seen a ghost. "

she swallowed the lump that formed in her
throat, rubbing her hands together in
attempts to calm herself down.

" yes, i just have a terrible feeling about that
boy. "

little did she know, that the disgusting feeling
at the bottom of her stomach was the universe telling the truth about zach dean.

he is never to be trusted with an angel like jack avery.
