Valentines struggles

Valentines day always seemed to be about big gestures and public expressions of love so everyone would know how much one loved the person, when the loved person was never the important part of that day. For Hermione that wasn't an option. She wanted this day to be just about them. About their love and the love they had for their weird blended family. She loved how they all had become this real family over time. It felt like everything she had ever wanted after the hell of life she has had with Hiram next to her.

That's why she had decided to to plan the perfect Valentines Day for the both of them. At first she had no idea what to do. It shouldn't be something big. They usually liked to just cuddle on the couch and watch a movie or two the most and Fred was more the person for one on one time anyways. So it should be only the two of them. No expensive restaurant, no audience, no crowded place.

One morning she woke up with the perfect idea. They could drive to old drive in cinema in Greendale, since the one in Riverdale wasn't there anymore. It would be mid february, but she knew they always made a Valentines special so you could sit on the back of your truck and watch the movies. They even placed some couches every Valentines Day in the front instead of leaving space for blankets on the ground, so it wouldn't be that cold. It would be perfect. Hermione knew how much Fred had loved the Drive in and they have had some of their best dates there cuddled in blankets.

She had it all planned out. She had bought his favorite snacks, his favorite beer, some of their boths favorite wine, new thick blankets they could put under them on the truck and some to cuddle into. She had a new floushy pairs of socks, because her feet usually got frozen even with a blanket around it. She had talked to the kids so she could hide everything in Archies closet so she wouldn't run the risk of Fred accidently finding anything of it.

On the 12th of February she was at the grocery store picking up some last minute items when she ran into FP, who seemed to be on a similar mission as she was. He had a basket with wine, a box of Alice's favorite chocolates and a bunch of red roses on top of some groceries.

FP: "Hermione. How are you? Looks like you're the one planning Valentines Day this year. Unusual, but I am sure he will love it. What have you planned for the day?"

Hermione: "I plan to drive with him to the old Drive-in in Greendale with him. They have this Valentines Special every year. You know how much Fred loved the Drive-in here. Also if it's not the same I think it will be a cute reminder of our teenage days to go there together. I already have new blankets some of his favorite snacks, beer and wine. I just need to pick up some things for the food I want to take with us so we can eat it after the movie in the truck at Sweetwater River. It will be perfect."

FP: "Um...Hermione...I am sorry to crush your plans, but I just heard it yesterday that because of the rain on the other side of the river these last few weeks the ground there is so muddy that they decided to cancel the Valentines Special to avoid people getting stuck with their trucks in the mud. Maybe you can look for something else to do this year. You still have two days to figure out something new."

The disappointment about the crash of her plans was plain obvious for everyone that could see her in this moment. She had spent so much thought in all the little details of this day and now everything was ruined, because of some stupid rain that had stopped falling days ago. She thought that since it had stopped a few days ago they would be fine, yet she was wrong. She didn't show it, but she was devastated and if she was alone she would probably break down and just cry her soul out for a while.

Some people would say it wasn't a big thing. It was just some Valentine's Day plans that she could change and still have an amazing night with Fred. Though she really wanted this to be a special day for the both of them. They had been through so much over the last year, managed to get back together after a horrible unhonest break up and were stronger than ever now and so it felt even more important to celebrate some special occasions a bit extra.
