i glance up, trying to locate the source of the sound.
there was a shiny golden bell strapped above the door, identical to the one in the big donut. lars was already at the counter reading a comic but got distracted once the sound notified him of our presence
"steven!" he smiles wide
"hey lars" steven returns a smirk
"and hi fizz" lars looks past steven to give me a welcoming grin
"hi"
steven and lars chatted while i admired the spectacular shop.
various sized stars were dangling from the tall black ceiling, they were golden and matched the new shiny earring lars began wearing.
many foods were on display, each with their own distinctive colour pallet and designs.
he also had set up a small stand which held gorgeous little necklaces, earrings and bracelets. my gaze was fixated on this pair of rose gold earrings, they were the type to hang down and shon in the light entering through the big store windows.
i held a pair in my still bloodstained hands and checked the price printed on the back

i rummaged around my pockets for any change but there was non, those teenagers must've taken the two hundred i had stored in my pocket.
annoyed, i went to place the delicate item back to its rightful place before being interrupted
"you can keep that"
i looked up and to the left.
the counter was in an L shape, with the cash register and food display on the shorter end and the other miscellaneous items on the other.
"are you sure?"
"only if you promise not to steal anymore"
steven looked at me, with one eyebrow raised
i sighed and agreed, desperately wanting the new earrings
i thanked him after making my promise and took the earrings out of their small cardboard holder.
i was using a small stand alone mirror to put them in while eavesdropping on lars and steven
"so what happened to you two?"
"we just fell over"
"yeah right, where did you fall? off a cliff"
"precisely"
"steven."
"okay we got beat up"
"couldn't you just use that bubble? remember when you and connie were trapped in that, me and sadie couldn't even scratch that thing"
"well we did but they wouldn't leave, ended up getting tackled while trying to get in the car"
"tough, i hope you guys get better"
the earrings hung down and reflected anything, making them stand out against my y/c/h
i was admiring them in the mirror before steven interrupted
"you ready to go?"
i nodded
"thanks lars, the shop looks great!" i called before leaving
"thanks fizz, stop by later"
the bell chimed as we left down the grey cracked path
"the earrings suit you"
i smile
"thank you"
"wanna go see little homeworld?"
"okay"
the walk there was only short, about twenty minutes all up.
through the dense trees i could begin seeing a mass of unique structures, the tallest one containing some sort of helicopter like rotor blade at the top.
gems just like the ones i had seen earlier roamed around freely, enjoying themselves in the friendly environment.
the whole day steven introduced me different gems, some were quartz soldiers and some even served the diamonds.
a blue gem who was clearly corrupted once asked steven to sign something, he did so and they engaged in a conversation which i wasn't part of.
my eyes scanned the vast unknown scenery and without realising it, i had started moving backwards to better take everything in
"i'm sorry!" i get startled as i back directly into an unfamiliar gem
"oh it's fine"
the tall blue gem gives me a warm smile
she was standing with two others, a big grey one with the most unique rainbow gemstone i've ever seen, and a tiny green one with pointy hair
they all looked at me, non of us knowing what to say or if we should say anything.
"hi guys" steven breaks through the later of silence
"steven! the green one gets closer to steven, prompting the others to do the same.
one again i was excluded from the conversation, but it didn't bother me.
"this is soda"
i snap back to reality once hearing my name
steven was introducing us
"soda these are my friends, lapis bismuth and peridot."
he pointed at the blue one, which was lapis, the grey one which was bismuth and the green one, peridot
"hello" i beam
peridots eyes travel down and stop at my hands which hung beside me.
"is that a?!"
i already knew what she spotted
the somewhat stranger points at my hands which makes the other two stare
"she's a hybrid too, guys"
they seemed shocked. a mix of happy and confused
but lapis's expression was easily understood, something was wrong
her hands were over her mouth to contain a gasp, it worried me
"what gem is she?" i hear her mutter
but rather than asking me, she questions steven
"a sodalite"
...
"a sodalite..?" she lowers her hand
"yep"
"steven can we.. go for a walk?"
the two leave abruptly, steven turned momentarily to assure he would return.
the other two kept me entertained, asking about my life and powers
stevens pov
"where are we goi-"
"where did you find her?" lapis cuts me off
she was staring ahead, almost determined looking
"she just showed up i guess?"
"on earth?"
"yeah..?"
...
"lapis what's the problem?"
lapis doesn't answer
i stop walking but she continues for a few more steps, keeping her back to me
"lapis?"
"are you two close?"
"well, i mean yeah"
"has blue diamond seen her?"
"no?"
"does she know about her?"
"no"
"do any of the diamonds know about her?"
"lapis tell me whats wro-"
"do any of the diamonds know about her steven!"
...
"no they don't"
i was confused at lapis' outburst, but i wasn't going to leave without an explanation
"why does it matter"
"don't let them see her, and if they do please cover up her gem"
"what's wrong with her gem?"
...
"lapis what's wrong with her gem"
she walks closer to me
"sodalites are supposed to be gone"
...
i already knew this, pearl told me
"pearl told me this"
"so you know why?"
"why?"
"why they were destroyed"
did she tell me?
i couldn't remember but if she did, i'm sure i wouldn't forget something that big
"no"
i sat down with lapis as i got the story
"their planets minerals and life were far more powerful than expected.. blue didn't even comprehend how identical the planet was to her own"
"you mean the one she was made on?"
lapis nodded
"she loved the few gems produced by that colony, all their gems were beautifully placed.. back, chest, stomach, forehead and hands.. all of which were her idea of perfect.
she wouldn't dare let them out without a minimum of three quartz gems surrounding her.. i even saw one."
"what did she look like?" i ask
"long flowing hair with the most gorgeous dress imaginable.. each one had a vastly different gown to highlight their importance... i've wanted to be them countless of times. until they stopped showing up. i no longer saw them at the front of fancy balls held by your mother, or wandering around with their guard entourage ."
...
"so what happened to them?"
"blue did her best to cover it up.. but that wouldn't stop rumours circulating the empire. the most believed one was that their powers raised a threat to the diamonds, blue in particular.. and i guess she couldn't bare sharing her throne"
"i think that theory might be true"
lapis gave me an interested look, telling me to go on
"me and soda got beat up.. and i really think i would've been a goner if she hadn't been there. do you remember the wedding when blue diamond made us all fall down in tears?"
lapis gave me a look
"almost all of us"
"yeah?"
"that's what soda did"
