Mai jolted awake. How long... Had she fallen asleep in the library?

Exams were coming up...
Yes, Medical Schools are a neck pain. So here she was.
The library was quite. Only Mai and another student were present.
Checking the time, her watch says, "10:46 pm."

Time wasted. Instead of studying, she had fallen asleep.
Grabbing her phone, to check the unnoticed text messages while she had fallen asleep. The unread texts consists of worried messages from her sister, and her friend.

Her phone immediately rang, making Mai almost drop the phone in suprise. Quickly answering the call, to quiet down the ringing.

"What?" She hissed.
"Mai? Ay, Salamat Sa Dios! Go home immediately!" Her friend's voice says in the phone.
"I will! In a few minutes, okay? I just have to clean this up." Mai replies.

"No! You don't understand! Just go home!" Her friend urged.

"Pat. What's gotten into you?!" Mai asks in bewilderment, to her friend's hysterical reaction.

Her friend, Pat, was heard inhaling and exhaling heavily through the phone.

"Have you heard about the rumor lately?" Pat asks.

"No,What are you talking about?" Mai replied.

"There was this student who stayed late at school, but her body was found in the  library shelf's crevice the next morning. Brutally tucked in. Some students say, that her spirit crawls in any building's crevice, in a disturbing manner,to grab her victims and drag them in the crevice. It's...horrifying and disgusting." Pat explains.

"Which is why! I am telling you to go home already! We don't know if the rumor is true, so you have to go home!!!" Pat says.

Mai began to feel queasy.

"I'll be fine." She states to Pat. "Another girl is here with me in the library. I'll be fine." She urged.

The other line in the phone fell silent.

"What's the color of the other girl's socks?" Pat asks, after a few minutes.

"Huh? Oh...Um...They're white, and...uh knee-length."

Again, the line fell silent.

"Mai." Pat's voice was now filled with worry.

"What?" Mai asks.

"Our school's strict dress code for girls consists of black ankle-length socks only...."

And that was when the power died.
The lights were dead, and the library was pitch black.

In the distance, a disturbing cracking noise snapped. Getting closer and closer.

"Mai! Get out of there!" Pat screams through the other side of the phone.

Mai scrambled away from the library desk, and tried to find a way to the door.

Running to only feel the hard wood slapping her across the face.

The lights turned back on.

Oh.

It was only a shelf.

'snap!'

She looked up.

Distorted flesh, crumpled against each other. Two eyeballs popping out of its sockets. And a disgusting grin.
