"Finally!" I cheered, one enclosed fist raised joyously in the air whilst the other tightly clutched my surf board. After a long week of school, it was the weekend at last.
"Slow down! I can barely even see Jotaro anymore." Kakyoin laughed, pointing towards the other end of the beach to highlight the fact that Jotaro didn't run after us when we bolted. "He can catch up." I shrugged, too excited to care as I charged towards the water. I'd been waiting far too long to stall any more than I had already.
Kakyoin looked between the two of us as if he were watching a ping pong match, debating running after me or waiting for his other companion. But in the end, he decided that the water looked way too enticing to just stand by and wait.
Goosebumps covered my body, chills running up and down my spine as the level of the water eventually rose to my waist. The water was beginning to get chillier, but the first five minutes were always the coldest. I used the sandy sea floor to propel myself onto my board, and lay my stomach across it to rely on my arms to carry me the rest of the way out to sea. By this point, Kakyoin's bulky upper body strength gave him the advantage, letting him pass me out with a playful smirk etched across his cocky face.
I smirked in return, the action conveying a sly wordless remark; 'you might be faster than me, but let's see who's surfing skills prove to be the best.' It was an expression that wiped the smugness from his features in an instant, causing me to laugh at the sudden change.
Jotaro had eventually arrived by the time we finished riding the first decent wave we possibly could. He reached the shoreline at his own pace, wading through the water laboriously as Kakyoin and I resurfaced after our most recent fall from the boards. "Glad you could join us!" I laughed giddily, pulling at wet strands of hair that clung to my face to regain my sight.
"Let's see what he's got. He could have practiced enough to surpass me again, but that would be a tough feat since I'm going to go all out this time! I'll win for sure!" Kakyoin laughed heartily, a confident grin glowing on his optimistic face that pretty much solidified his defeat. While it was obvious that he was joking, I could see the cogs turning in Jotaro's head as he mulled over his declaration. "Don't say that until it's been done, otherwise you're bound to lose." I pointed out with a teasing smirk, flipping my board upright to continue surfing.
"Have you got any faith in me?" He rolled his eyes, grabbing ahold of my board and pulling it away as I tried to climb onto it, causing me to unexpectedly dive under the water by accident. As I resurfaced, spluttering due to the lack of reaction time I was given, I glared mischievously at him. "Now I definitely don't. Jotaro, you'd better win this if you know what's good for you." I finally got ahold of my board, wary of it being snatched away again. "I can't wait to see this!"

"You've got this, Jotaro!" I cheered playfully as the two boys lined their boards up side-by-side. Kakyoin glared lightly in my direction, while Jotaro seemed to avert his gaze to anywhere but me. Speaking of, he's been pretty silent lately..
"Go!" I was abruptly snapped from my thoughts as Kakyoin announced the beginning of their friendly competition, catching the next wave that began to tower over them. I cheered as loud as I could as they effortlessly stood to their feet, perfect balance on the wooden surfaces of the boards that cut through the water with ease, splashing droplets of glistening mist that reflected the sun with each twist and turn.
