Lance's P.O.V:

Just because Keith had just promised me he'd stick by me, doesn't mean I'm not still worried about the ball. Keith was still hugging me as I rested my head on top of his. "Still anxious?.." Keith asked quietly, resting his head against my chest. "Yes, but how could I not be... I don't get how you're acting so calm about this. They're targeting your people yet you don't seem scared." I stated, trying to get answers for his calm demeanor. Keith pulled away from our hug to look me in the face, still holding my hands in his. "Of course I'm scared Lance! Any rational person would be. The key is acting like you aren't scared and at least t r y to keep a level head in these situations." Keith said as he kept direct eye contact with me.

"You're right.. Sorry I freaked out a little.. I guess I'm just mad that my own people could act this heinously, and in turn scared that they may take you away from me.." I mumbled as I got one of my hands free from his and caressed his cheek. Keith's face looked flushed, and with that kind of reaction some of my worries had been smothered by thoughts of this cute alpha.

"Oh wow! Look at the time its super late!" Keith said as he quickly turned to leave, but I kept a hold of his hand. "What's wrong kitten?~" I teased, knowing full well that he was just flustered and trying to change the subject. "Let go.." Keith said sheepishly. "Is someone embarrassed?~" I asked, already knowing the answer. "No I'm not! I just want to go to sleep, is that such a crime?" Keith said defensively, looking at anything but me. "Fine, fine if that's the case I'll walk you back to your room." I said smugly. I started walking down the hall, still holding Keith's hand. We got weird looks from some of the guards and the maids who were finishing up for the night but I could care less.

. . .

We were about to round the corner down the hall Keith's room was down, but Keith stopped in his tracks. "Are you okay kitten?" I whispered. "Yes I'm okay.. but um... Can I have a hug before you leave?..." Keith asked while staring at the floor. It was so cute, oh my gods my heart might just melt. "Of course you can have a hug! Is that even a question?!" I said, and he looked up at me. I pulled the smaller alpha closer to me and hugged him tightly, kind of hating that we were about to part ways already. "Goodnight kitten~" I whispered into his ear. "G-Goodnight Lance..!" Keith said sheepishly. As soon as I let go of him he practically ran to his room. Cute.

. . .

The next day was fairly normal, except Lotor was kind of busy and decided he was just going to eat lunch in his room. Me and Keith had already gotten our weapons of choice for the ball tomorrow, I picked a mini blaster and Keith just picked out a smaller dagger then the one he uses to train with. After we had finished our meals Keith and I spent most of our day out in the garden, cloud gazing to pass the time. Keith said he was going to drag Lotor down from his room to eat dinner as I picked up the sheets and pillows we used while cloud gazing, I don't like the idea of him going on his own but I guess I can't really argue since the little alpha already ran off.

(Also I know I don't usually change p.o.v mid chapter but I have to for this one.)

Keith's P.O.V:

I passed his guards, then opened Lotor's door. "Lotor??" I called out as I shut the door behind me, looking around for any sign of the large alpha. "In here!" Lotor yelled from his bathroom, followed by the sound of vomiting. Before I went in I passed his desk, there was a plate of exactly what we had for lunch but it smelled kind of off.. and the fact that only half of it was eaten strikes me as odd. I ran into his bathroom and he did not look anywhere near okay. I rubbed his back as he continued to vomit into the toilet.

"You were fine this morning whats wrong with you?" I asked, noting that he was having difficulty breathing. "I think.. I was poisoned." Lotor said, trying to steady his breathing. "I tried to just rest the uneasy feeling away but it just got worse." Lotor added. Gods his breath smelled purely of vomit and chemicals. One of the staff in the kitchen must've poisoned his meal. Lotor went into a coughing fit and covered his mouth with the back of his hand. It had appeared that Lotor had coughed up blood. "Why didn't you get taken care of at the med bay!?" I asked. "Because what if they're in on it too? Then they wont even give me the antidote and I will die for sure. I only ate half of my meal, and I already tried to but I really don't think I can just sleep this off.." Lotor replied grimly.

"Can you help me back into bed?..." Lotor asked, and sounded as if it hurt his alpha pride to ask me even though he was literally poisoned. "Sure.. but we need to get you an antidote." I said as I had him lean on me and walked him to his bed. "And how do you suppose we'll do that?" Lotor asked as he laid down on his bed, and going into another coughing fit. More blood splattered onto his hand and it made me grimace.

Then I got an idea. I copied Lotor's coughing fit. "Was that close enough?" I asked. Lotor gave me a questioning look but nodded. I grabbed the small dagger I kept in my boot and pricked two of my fingers, and tried to replicate the splatters of blood on Lotor's hands on my own. "What are you doing?..." Lotor asked even though it seemed like he knew. I went back into his bathroom and went through his cupboards and sniffed a couple of cleaning products until I found one that smelled similar enough to the chemical smell in Lotor's breath. I closed my mouth tightly and sprayed my lips with said chemical.

I ran to Lotor's bedside, and said "I'll be back as soon as I can. If you die on me, I'll never forgive you." Lotor nodded with a sad smile on his face. I ran across the castle to the kitchen to continue my half baked plan from there.

"H-Hello?" I called out, faking a coughing fit. "Prince Keith what ever is the matter?! You look awful!" One of the staff said as another looked like they've seen a ghost. "What has happened to you darling?!" One asked. "I was bugging Prince Lotor, and asked If I could have some of his lunch earlier and I ate just about half of the-" I pretended to have another coughing fit and then they saw my bloodied hands. "I had about half of his plate, I thought I would feel better so I just rested but I fear its getting worse.." I said, and was making myself breath a little wrong to really sell the act.

One of the kitchen staff got in front of the others, she was taller than me, long brown braid over her shoulder. A tan Altean girl. "Let me take you to the med bay, you poor thing." I leaned on her the whole walk there, faking a couple more coughing fits and pretending as though I might vomit at any second. With all the acting I actually started to feel a little ill, not to mention the chemical smell didn't exactly help. "Sit right here. You are- seem to be poisoned, and I think I know what type of antidote I should give you based on your symptoms." She said, stumbling on her words. She must think I'm really stupid if she thinks I can't put two and two together. I know she did it, she knew exactly what antidote to grab. The real question is is if she was in on this alone or not.

She went into the back room and I realized the med bay was really empty and it was just us two in here. She came out with the antidote, she looked guilty that I had been the one to get poisoned. I was going to assume she was part of that rebel group King Alfor was warning us about but if she was she would just let me die. This wasn't the rebel group, but something completely different that was specifically targeting Lotor then... "Drink this and you'll be feeling better in about half a varga. (Hour)" She said as she handed it to me. "I must get going now..." She said, probably going to try to leave the castle as quickly as she can before she is found guilty of poisoning a royal.

"Alright.. thank you for the help." I said, and she bowed and then shortly after she walked out of the room I could hear her sprinting down the hall. I held the small bottle of antidote in my hand tightly, and went out into the hallway, I don't have time to go after her and chase her down. Lotor needs this gods damned antidote before I can think about getting her locked up for what she did. I ran for a few hallways and suddenly saw Lance. We both stood still and stared at each other for a tik (second).

"Keith? Are you alright!? I heard you were poisoned!? I came as quickly as I could when I heard you were brought to the med bay!" Lance said frantically as he ran the rest of the way down the hall towards me. "No, no I had to say and pretend that I was poisoned so I could get the antidote.. Lotor was the one that was actually poisoned." I replied. Hyperaware that I still need to get back to Lotor and give him the antidote I started running down the hall again. Lance ran after me all the way back to Lotor's room.

. . .

We were both out of breath by the time we got to his door, I ran in and straight to his bedside. Lance shut the door behind us and followed closely behind me. "Lotor I got the antidote, sit up so you can take it." I ordered as I sat on the edge of his bed. Lotor looked really out of it but did as I told him, and sat up. On any regular occasion Lotor would get all huffy about me ordering him around. After Lotor drank the antidote he laid right back down. "Quite the little actor you are Keith... That was dangerous but.. Thank you for doing that for me." Lotor said with a weak smile. "You're welcome." I replied quietly and stood up and walked out of Lotor's room. "Let's go tell my father about what happened, after we get you cleaned up." Lance said as he took my bloody hand in his clean one.
