RiverClan
The cheering had died down as cats resumed their daily tasks where all Mosspaw could hear was mumbled perky chatter and the crunching sound of snow as cats would walk in, out, and around the camp. Mosspaw felt happier than he had ever felt before!
"I'm a RiverClan warrior apprentice!" he thought his fluffy chest swelling up with pride. He hadn't noticed but he almost had crashed into his father. Willowsong standing tall gazed at his son.
"Congratulations," the tom spoke, "you'll make a good warrior." Willowsong gave a soft smile, but Mosspaw knew he was distracted. He tried to look behind his father to see if his mother was still around.
"Is Bristleface still here?" Mosspaw squeaked. His mother had come to his ceremony, but was hoping he could get a couple of words from her too on this day. Seeing Willowsong's face switch from pride to stoic melted all the hope Mosspaw had of possibly hearing words of positivity from Bristleface.
Willowsong mewed, "No. Bristleface went on a hunting patrol. It'll be good for her to stretch her legs after being in the nursery."
Mosspaw paused and remembered since he wasn't a kit anymore Bristleface would go back to the warriors den.. with his father. They'd be seeing each other more. He already knew how hard it was for them to even talk to each other, how would they even manage sleeping in the same den!? Mosspaw's stomach twisted in knots. He felt guilt crash against him like a mighty wave. "Japerkit and Minnowkit should be apprentices too..." he thought. He shuffled his paws and his eyes drooped down, then his shoulders until it became a pathetic hunch.
"Hey. Thornscar is waiting for you," Willowsong nudged his son to look over near the entrance of camp. His father helped him up and looked at him in the eye and mumbled. "Mosspaw I'm proud of you. Do well in training." Willowsong turned and walked away to ask Dappleleaf about being on the next patrol.
His father had left Mosspaw with sparkling eyes. He never thought his dad would say he's proud of him!! It was a first and a purr rose up in his throat. He saw Thornscar gesture her tail for Mosspaw to come along. Mosspaw bounded over to his mentor and awaited his first lesson.
"Mosspaw I'm aware you're already friends with Flutterpaw and Troutpaw so we're going to explore the whole border with them and their mentors. They've been doing well with their training so a nice easy walking day will get them pumped up to do some hunting tomorrow," Thornscar stated as she looked for the other cats. Soon enough Flutterpaw and Troutpaw were walking alongside their mentors, Snowdrop and Swiftstorm.
Snowdrop bounded over to Thornscar and brushed her side in greeting. She had cocked her head at Mosspaw then looked at Thornscar and opened her mouth. Mosspaw had forgotten for a moment that the white cat was deaf and needed to change her mouth movements to mouth out Mosspaw's new name. Mosspaw knew the young warrior was born deaf and had learned to mouth out cat's names as well as many other symbols. Flutterpaw is Snowdrop's first apprentice and Mosspaw knew she and her mentor had a close bond which made him happy, he only hoped to be as close to his mentor too.
