RiverClan

"Use your size and strength to your benefit Mosspaw if your opponent is pinned you win!" Thornscar howled.

It was battle practice and all the RiverClan apprentices were training to fight against each other to see everyone's strengths and weaknesses. They were assigned to battle one on one, but then it would become two on two with one apprentice sitting out each round. This round it was Mosspaw facing off against Cliffpaw one of the other apprentices. Despite being the youngest apprentice he was the strongest and could take a lot of hits. Other apprentices found it difficult to take him down.

"Cliffpaw!" Lotusfur  sneered, "You aren't going to let this barely out of the nursery cat take you down are you?"

"Barely out of the nursery?" Mosspaw thought, "I'm bigger than he is! And I've been an apprentice for about a moon now!" He hoped after Mackreltail's kits become apprentices later today he wouldn't be the scratch bark of Goldenpaw, Cliffpaw, and their mentors anymore.

Cliffpaw hit Mosspaw's side with his paw, but as his paw came to the ground Mosspaw saw an opportunity to seal the win. Mosspaw used his weight and stepped hard on Cliffpaw's paw as it hit the ground pinning him. The older apprentice screamed and Mosspaw pushed him over then pinned him. Mosspaw had won.

"Good job Mosspaw!" Thornscar praised, "And good job using your assets to your advantage. I'm proud of you."

Mosspaw purred he loved his battle training especially since he had a real RiverClan cat advantage over others. He felt proud. "Hopefully once the ice thaws in the lake he could be good at fishing too!" he thought. Whereas his size was his biggest advantage in fighting in hunting it was his biggest downfall. He was too slow and made too much noise when he had to stalk prey. Mosspaw glanced over at his clanmate and he was limping from the paw he stepped on. He instantly felt guilty. He did this. Mosspaw left his mentor's side and went to apologize to his clanmate.

"Hey.. Cliffpaw I'm so sorry about your paw. Do you want me to get Shellwhisker?" Mosspaw said almost like a whisper.

"Nah I'll be fine I just need to walk it out that's all. I shouldn't have been so sloppy." Cliffpaw chuckled, "Good fight though Mosspaw. Hopefully Lotusfur will let me sit out the next round."

As Cliffpaw sat down beside his sister Goldenpaw she sneered, "You let Mosspaw beat you? Be careful or you'll be drug down just like Flutterpaw and Troutpaw."

Goldenpaw's words struck Mosspaw like she had scratched his muzzle. "Did I really hold them back?" Mosspaw wondered as his mind started to spiral. Fortunately Flutterpaw signaled Snowdrop and bounded to face Goldenpaw.

"You really think we were drug down? Mosspaw won! And how about the next round it's me versus you Goldenpaw? Or are you all fluff and no claws?" Flutterpaw hissed with her ears back and her back fur raised. Mosspaw had never seen her like this and from the look at Troutpaw's face neither did he. Goldenpaw smirked and cocked her head "Alright you're on just make sure you don't Fluttercry!"
